Necessary for your philosophical advancement. The important part here is the commentary. The pic is probably NSFW, although it is technically, I guess.

Try reading it aloud in an emphatic lolcats/DO ALL THE THINGS style. However, don't do so at work or around the kids.

Skimpy superhero costumes on really buff guys. For a closer look, click here. Possibly NSFW.

Any exceptional cosplay you've noticed lately? Link 'em up.

Goodness me, how could I almost forget that!? If Harry actually existed, he'd be 32 today.

What are your favorite Potter fanfics or videos? Be not shy -- the shipping wars have no place here today. If you link to something that's Not Safe For Work, though, it would be good, so parents can keep an eye on their kids' browsing (or the kids can note something for when they're older).

My fanfic this time around is the grim, nasty Brutal Harry by LordsFire. This AU is not a story for kids, and very well might have some triggery abuse things, but it's very well done and utterly engrossing. Fair warning: The last chapter is very violent.

On the video side, something much lighter, by my fellow FuMPers Steve Goodie and Nuclear Bubble Wrap:

If you haven't seen it, warning: Possibly triggery stuff, e.g., attempted suicide, but it all works out at the end.

Just felt like listening to it this morning. We miss you, Gilda.

A steampunk epic about... well... just watch.

It is likely that the movie will not be half as good as this. However, I'm willing to give it a shot. Warning: LOUD METAL MUSIC, th-purting blood, occasional boobies.

In Three.

Fuckin.

Starring Michael Jai White and Jeri Ryan. Parents: a few F-bombs, a lot of gunplay, a few other violent moves. Only a touch of martial arts this ep. I suspect that many more elements of the game universe will be introduced over the next two eps, but starting off with Sonya, Jax, Stryker and Kano ain't bad.

Thoughts?

I have to say, the only reason I can think of that anyone reading my LJ would be offended is hearing kids drop the F-bomb. Made me blink a couple of times. But then, I haven't seen Kick-Ass yet.

  • I'm at AnthroCon in Pittsburgh, PA this weekend. Concert tonight at 8:30, another Saturday at 3:30. And all day in the dealers' room Friday, Saturday (except for the concert, of course) and Sunday. Come on down and say Hi.
  • Still working on music, although ideally I'll have new live shows up tomorrow, certainly by Saturday.
  • Okay, this is kind of a biggie. Over the past few years, I've written some fanfic. Some of it kinda kinky and all. Almost all Potterverse, although I've got a B5 story I'll post soon. If you want to read the first wave of it, click here. Not safe for work.
  • Dunno if shares in Fae Hollow are still available, but you can try. Or, just make a donation to help Alexander James Adams keep his homeland. Do note the $10 default amount on the donation box, you can change it.
Ready... set... Pimp Your Stuff!

Slashdot has a post about why video game movies are so awful. The central point is that games use a very different storytelling structure than movies, which does make sense... but there are usually central stories which I think could be properly distilled into a movie script. Shrug.

The post does have a particular coolness, though -- a pitch trailer for a cinematic reboot of Mortal Kombat. Yes, that is Jeri Ryan as Sonya, and Michael Jai White as Jax Briggs. Almost eight minutes long, including a visceral fight scene that truly feels/sounds like a battle to the death (WARNING: very violent, NSFW, possibly squicky as hell):

Do you like any video-game films, or moments from video-game films? Even though it got panned, I'm fond of Double Dragon. And nobody's getting my copies of Dead or Alive or Doom. (Hm. What's with the alliterative "D" thing...?)

Ah, yes, the Antler Surprise. Nothing directly offensive, but so NSFW.
