Re: Card -- I went to one of those SHRs, a long time ago. He's gone way the hell off the track since then. Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orson_Scott_Card) has more, and links to various essays, but the short form is: he calls himself a Democrat, but by and large supports Republican issues, is on a moral high horse regarding sexuality, and in 2004 "praised Zell Miller for trying to save the Democratic party". My own personal experience with his homophobia was a handout on the freebie table at ChiCon 1991, with an anti-gay column of his reprinted. Can't remember if it was printed by him or his supporters as a call to arms or by his detractors as a warning.
