Happy Birthday, Harry Potter

Goodness me, how could I almost forget that!? If Harry actually existed, he'd be 32 today.
What are your favorite Potter fanfics or videos? Be not shy -- the shipping wars have no place here today. If you link to something that's Not Safe For Work, though, it would be good, so parents can keep an eye on their kids' browsing (or the kids can note something for when they're older).
My fanfic this time around is the grim, nasty Brutal Harry by LordsFire. This AU is not a story for kids, and very well might have some triggery abuse things, but it's very well done and utterly engrossing. Fair warning: The last chapter is very violent.
On the video side, something much lighter, by my fellow FuMPers Steve Goodie and Nuclear Bubble Wrap:

Date: 2012-08-01 08:41 pm (UTC)Over the last few decades, I've
watched fanfic grow from trashy,
rehashed short stories to
full-length novels; inspire the
rise of hobby-editing; and venture
into sophisticated literary
analysis through plot divergence
and character refraction.
In other words, you could learn
more about literature by first
reading canon and then reading a
selection of its best fanfic, than
you could in most of the literature
or writing classes I've ever taken.
I've written several posts about
how to mine fanfiction for ideas
as to what works in storytelling,
and what readers like and why, for
use in original fiction. There is
just so much potential there.
Even more exciting: the internet
is the natural home of the shared
world. More crowdfunding projects
are headed in this direction. So
the divide between canon and fanfic
is shrinking. Among my shared
world projects are The Silk Road Allies, Torn World, and Aether
Dancer. Also
her crowdfunding project. All of
that stuff offers more opportunity
for people to write in favorite
settings, collaborate, and explore
quantum plotting. *glee*
