I'm making scalemail out of used CD-Rs and old CDs. I'd love comments, suggestions, questions, etc.

Currently I'm looking for a glue that'll hold to fishing line well without burning through it, making it brittle, or requiring heat.

None. Drill holes around the edges instead and sew them on.

Thought about that, but I've got a) no place to do the drilling (small apartment, no real porchspace) and b) nothing to sew them on to... I'd like it to be as freestanding as possble so I can lace it on and not have to sew a base under it.

HAH! Great name. When I made my first version of this (in a contest - one hour to make a costume from junk) I called my self Tech Girl with my sidekick The Penguin.

How about melting holes through with a heated needle? Stink a bit I suppose, but it'll go through.
Do AOL still supply endless CDs on request?

Hmm, that I could do outside, I have that kind of room I think... but how to heat the needle? Keep in mind I'm already looking at easily 300 CDs for the torso bit and probably another 200 for the skirt... so just a needle in a lighter won't do, and I'm not sure a candle would get it hot enough... and I doubt that I can get to an electrical outlet outside, tho' I could be wrong.

Sort of. I have a large number of friends who are retail schlobs, and they're all too happy to empty out their bins for me at work. Also, I'm in a college town so a brief swing around the apartment complexes at mail time leads to literal cases of them addressed to 'resident'.

Soldering Iron? mind, if you have one of those, odds are a small hand drill is there too....

One can use a sharp knife to "dig" in using the point...think like melonballing....

Have you no gas ring?

My landlord gives me a shifty eye when I light scented candles. No gas ring -- though damn it'd be cool, hehe.

I have a soldering iron, but no place to plug it in out-of-doors... I could probably test it out to see how much it smells indoors. Hm.

Candles are dodgy... I recall one luscious lady who surrounded her bath tub with these "tealights"....and ended up romantically setting the (acrylic) bathtub ablaze.....
Candles I always feel are a nono outside of lanterns (I have a few of those in case of power cuts)
