We Came In Peace For All Mankind

Thirty-seven years ago today.

Okay, Congress has got its head up its ass and NASA is perpetually tongue-tied. How would you sell the need to greatly expand the space program to the public? You have three reasonably short sentences and no big words -- think "sound bite". Ready, set, go. (I have my own version, which I'll put here later so as not to Heisenberg the thing.)

A thirty second tv spot. Start with a tight overhead shot of a very crowded city (change it up for whatever region you are running the ad in). Pull back up and out until your camera POV is the earht from space; keep going until your camera is on the surface of the moon looking at the earth. Pan the camera down to show the first footprint image, hold for a beat, and then pan over to another footprint (sfx) and several others and then up and around to see a family in spacesuits playing in front of lunar dwellings. Fade to black with the title card reading, "In space no one can hear you having fun."

That's beautiful -- but I fear that most of the upright monkeys on this planet just wouldn't get it ...
