Is it worth noting that the Book of Revelations was probably never intended to be an end-of-the-world literal prophecy, not even by the church leaders who included it? It was, as far as I've read, an obscured protest against the Roman Empire's abuses of power, and against the current Emperor in particular, because the early Christians would have been in big trouble for just coming out and saying it in plain language. So it's a code for political unrest, and a hope that eventually the tyranny of the Roman state would be overthrown by the forces of Christ...which, in a way, they were, so Revelations has already taken place.
