Okay, money just got a little tighter than I like. (Current flavor of Straw That Broke The Camel's Back: glasses frames snapped.) And I'm not ready for any kind of Kickstarter yet. So: I have lowered the price of EVERY ALBUM AND LIVE SHOW at my Bandcamp site to "Pay What You Want".

This will be at least until St. Patrick's Day, and I will have a couple of new live shows and possibly something else released before then.

If you can help out, many thanks, and I hope you enjoy the music! If you just want to get some music free, now's the time.

Legendary ConFusion is going on right now at the Doubletree Hilton in Dearborn, MI (just west of the Southfield Freeway at Ford Road -- turn right at the Wendy's). Lots going on, lots of great people. Lots of great music. And me!
  • 2:00 pm - Songwriting Workshop (Windsor)
  • 3:00 pm - Mass Autograph Session 1 (Huron/Ontario/Erie)
  • 4:00 pm - FSM Gospel Magic Show (Fairlane)
  • 6:00 pm - Tom Smith in Concert (Michigan)
  • 9:00 pm - Super Heroes and Space Cowboys (Fairlane)
There's also an open filk at 10:00 pm, but I'm not sure I'll make it.

So who's gonna be there, or is there already?
filkertom: (Default)
The ConFusion Programming Schedule is up, and I am in a daunting position. I can deal with 6:00 p.m. Saturday, that's fine. But whose bright idea was it that I go right after the Heather Dale Band (Heather, Ben Deschamps, probably S. J. Tucker, and who knows who else will show up)!? I'm doomed.

Or else we'll all have a great time. One of the two.

Oh, and [profile] markbernstein is the Fan GOH! He gets inducted into that worthy office at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, then has his own concert at 3:00. And there's [profile] howardtayler and other artists doing stuff, and lots of Maker panels, and Anime all weekend (if you're up at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, they're running an ep of the marvelous Code Geass
), and more writer panels than you can shake a Selectric at, and gaming, and costuming, and and and.

If, for whatever reason, you have never been to ConFusion, this is a really great year to start.

So, who's planning to be there?
filkertom: (ThumbsUp)
One more time. They're down to 17 hours, with just over $500 to go. C'mon, it's our dear friends, Eric Coleman and Lizzie Crowe! You know you want to help.

So here's the deal.

I'm not in any danger of being thrown out on the street or anything, but I have got a few pending things that I need some cash for -- dental work, GenCon, stuff like that.

So I'm working frantically to get some new concerts up, and to finish a couple of paid-for projects so I can get back to other projects, including, y'know, long-overdue new albums.

First up is my concert at ConTemporal this year. And I think I've done a pretty good job of spiffing up the package. Best possible audio. Lyrics and notes all over the individual song pages. All the JPGs for the CD, tray, and insert. (Subscribers, I'm uploading the MP3s right now, and later this evening I'll upload a disk image for you, already registered with Gracenote [sans cover art -- that's an ass-pain].)

Aaaaaand it's free. You don't have to pay a thing.

What's the catch?

None. I'm gonna start putting ALL my concerts up on BandCamp that way, and update things on soon as well. The concerts will be free.

Unless you'd like to pay me something for them, to help support an artist.

(I repeat: Subscribers, this is already in your folder or will be within about fifteen minutes. You're good, and thanks again.)

Anyway. It was a pretty damn good concert. We had lots of fun, and a bunch of people hadn't heard my stuff, and we laughed and sang and et cetera and I even improv'd a song about a lady carrying on a conversation right near the stage, and I think managed to not offend anyone or come off looking like a jerk.

48 minutes of Tomedy (... okay, that word dies a quick death starting nnnNOW), free for nothin'.

Thanks to you all.

Our dear friends Eric Coleman and Lizzie Crowe, otherwise known as Cheshire Moon, are in the midst of an IndieGoGo campaign to fund their new album. Unfortunately, they're only halfway to their goal, with ten days to go. Won't you check it out and help if you can? Thanks.

Bookmark this page. (There are apparently some subdomain issues at, so it might be tricky to get to.) Lots of fun stuff down in the regular room, Baker, including Filk & Cookies, recording workshops, Instafilk, etc.

My schedule, at the moment, is:
  • Fri 7:00 p.m. - Hyatt Int'l North (you just want to stay all night for this one -- I'm followed by the Blibbering Humdingers, the Brobdingnagian Bards, and the Lost Boys)
  • Sat 7:00 p.m. - Guest of Honor Banquet (just a quick 15 minutes, but YEAH)
  • Sat 10:00 p.m. - Hyatt Int'l North (another evening of coolness, kicked off by the Humdingers and followed by the Bards)
  • Sun 8:30 p.m. - Hyatt Int'l North (Humdingers before, the Gekkos after)
  • Mon 11:30 a.m. - Hyatt Concourse (this actually may be an hour set, rather than the normal half-hour)
So who all's gonna be there?

Many congratulations to the newest members of the Filk Hall of Fame: Volker Tanger, Roberta Rogow, and Cecilia Eng.

Right now, out in Dearborn. I'll be there tomorrow; I've got a panel on home CD production at noon, a concert at 6:00, and Spock Pacific In Concert at 9:00. Who all's there, or is going to be there?
filkertom: (science)
Woulda hyped this sooner, if I'd seen it. [personal profile] madfilkentist is trying to fund a book called Files That Last, evangelizing and explaining digital preservation to a wide range of computer users. Thing is, it's only got about 8 hours left. If you like the idea, won't you help?

I have no idea how the open filking was, because I went to bed early -- I really needed the rest, and I want to be up for tonight.

First, of course a million hugs. Oh god, did I need those. Along with all the folks I see with some regularity -- and trust that I love you all, I'm not meaning to omit anyone but I could fill this page just with shout-outs, assume you're in there -- but there are so many people I haven't seen in so long -- Stevie Mac and Katy, Scott, Rand and Erin and Adam and his lady Joanne who I hadn't met, Amy and Vixy and Tony, Mark and Roberta and Harold and Liz and by god Myra, Mary and Elaine and Steve and James and Steve and Steve and Dene in a full-head knit Cthulhu hat, Lowell and Cheryl, Gary fer fuck's sake, Bill and Martha and Bill and Pat and Bill and Jo and Bill and my god the Ropers' girls are getting big, weren't they just in swaddling, and Persis and Spencer and and and and and and. Brain overload from so many wonderful folks.

And one of the several Steves helped get my stuff in the hotel room, and the rented scooter is making me both much less pain-ridden than I would be and the fuckin' drive-by terror of the con. It's great.

The Pegasus Nominations concert was a blast and a half. So much excellent music, as well as one of my songs. Ha! I kid. I want at least audio, and preferably video, of "Divine Irregularity" from last night. I'd wanted to shtick it up, but holy moses did that work.

And Stevie Mac's version of "Cheshire Kitten" was amazing, and Ookla's "Tiberius Rising" made me cry as it always does, and Juanita sounded golden with "Chess", and Roper and Dr. Mary did a particularly excellent version of "The Dolls", and Stevie Mac was on stage with Scott standing in for Amy, and Tom got everyone going with "Gone Filkin'", and Just Freakin' Yeah.

I hope your day is as good as mine is going to be.

It's time once more for the Ohio Valley Filk Fest, held every year at the Doubletree Inn in Worthington, OH (just a couple hundred yards north of the Columbus I-270 Loop). Great friends, great music, basically our Thanksgiving gathering. The fun's already beginning tonight, as early arrivals break out the guitars.

I'll be there tomorrow afternoon; the Pegasus Nominees Concert starts at 8:00ish.

Who's gonna be there? Or, if you're not, what's your weekend look like?
filkertom: (ThumbsUp)
At midnight Pacific time tomorrow, to be precise. As usual, a very strong ballot (and I'm honored to be nominated for Best Gaming Song, with "Divine Irregularity"). While my own preference for Best Classic Filk is Juanita Coulson's "Chess", that's just me -- I would never Chess presume Chess to tell anyone Chess how to vote Chess, especially Chess in the Chess Best Classic CHESS Filk Song CHESS DAMMIT category.

You can now get Leslie Fish's Avalon Is Risen from Prometheus Music and fine filk dealers everywhere. But don't forget to shell out another $9.97 and get the downloadable Retro Edition, which is just Leslie and her 12-string, Monster. It sounds great, and is not to be missed.

Down in Columbus, OH. Always a lovely little con. Musically, it's got me, Bill Roper, the Suttons, Erica Neely, and whoever else up shows up from the thriving Ohio Valley Filk community.

Who's gonna be there, or where are you gonna be if not?
