Sadness. Author Kurt Vonnegut has passed away at the age of 84. Without doubt, he was one of the most influential, controversial, and wildly talented American authors ever, darkly satirical and hopeful even in the dregs of despair. Fare well, good sir, and thanks for sharing your visions with us. They made us better.

A great loss. :(

I "discovered" Kurt Vonnegut when I was in 9th grade. I saw "Breakfast of Champions" in the school library (my favorite lunchtime hangout) and thought it sounded interesting, so I checked it out and brought it up to my math class next period. The teacher saw it sitting on my desk and informed me that I wasn't supposed to bring books like that to school.

Naturally, I couldn't wait to read it...
