New iTom Song

They don't call me The World's Fastest Filker for nothin', beeyotch. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] hanabishirecca for the name.

Serious question: I'm thinking of changing the title of iTom 4.0 from May I Help You, Myth? to Smith and Legend. It's become a somewhat more personal album, and the last few songs will reflect that even more. Thoughts?

[identity profile] scifantasy.livejournal.com 2007-08-24 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it works, more because it'll be your last iTom album at least.

And "Hope Eyrie" helps the personal factor, in a way. It's not especially mythic...unless you're a filker.

Go with "Smith and Legend...I can see a really great cover art for the CD, with you holding a guitar like a 6 shooter...

I like the idea... go for it!!!

Nice name for the song. I can't wait until my lunch to listen to it.

Green Gamer issue #23

Enter... THE FILKER!

Is he FRIEND?
Is he FOE?
Is he BOTH?

[identity profile] kightp.livejournal.com 2007-08-24 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
*laugh* Perfect!!!

I'm gonna share it with the Pirate Guys, although I'll probably have to explain the backstory to them (they're fond of geeks and have lots of geek fans, but they aren't especially technical themselves...)

BTW, they're pretty much "go" for Capricon next year...

Looks like your 'listen' link is 404'd.

[identity profile] hearth-spirit.livejournal.com 2007-08-24 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry to be the bringer of bad news :P. But the 'download' link works fine.

[identity profile] filkertom.livejournal.com 2007-08-24 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, actually, I did swipe it from your comment. Thanks!

Re: Looks like your 'listen' link is 404'd.

Yeah, well, it works much better when I actually upload the playlist file. *facepalm* Fixed now -- thanks.

And one of these days I hope to cut an album with Jennifer Garner and [livejournal.com profile] folkmew, titled Alias Smith & Wessels....

[personal profile] hms42 2007-08-24 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Go for it! A suggestion since its going to be a legend, toss in an extra bonus song of another classic Tom Smith song that has gone out of print. (There are likely a couple that have not made the CD jump yet...)

That is gonna be So Kewl. Sometime over the holidays, we should start making noise regarding making noise, i.e., me sending them scripts and everything for the TLAPD song. Assuming they'd still like to sing it with me...? I promise, they get ALL the good jokes, and almost all of the bad ones.

no no no..."Alias Smith and Weasels" Again, fantastic cover art...

Oh, yeah, they're stoked. They just need to get through the usual September craziness, and the Chumbucket family's impending move (did they tell you? they're selling the house here and moving to St. Croix, Virgin Islands!)

[identity profile] aylinn.livejournal.com 2007-08-24 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
And this song, my friends, is living proof of that legendary and most practical advice:

NEVER annoy the Bard. You WILL regret it. Because music lives a lot longer than reputations.

*applauds*

"Do not meddle in the affairs of bards, for they are not at all subtle and your name scans to 'Greensleeves'."

[identity profile] hanabishirecca.livejournal.com 2007-08-24 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Not a problem.

Hmmm, we should edit your wikipage to note that after threat of deletion, you wrote the song Wikipirates. :)

[identity profile] mythdude.livejournal.com 2007-08-24 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
That was so creepy. I thought you were honestly talking to *me* in your post when you said "Can I help you, Myth?"

What? I skim sometimes and that stood out. ^^;

[identity profile] filkertom.livejournal.com 2007-08-24 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Now, now. I never named the guy. Made it easy to find his name, yes.

Honestly, I had to work myself up to the song. I'm sure he can't figure out why anybody could possibly be angry or upset with him. He was just doing a Very Important Job -- trying to delete an information page for a low-level independent musician who seemed not to be famous enough.

Okay, actually, that's a really fucked way to be. If you're out there, Mark H. Wilkinson of Greater Manchester (that's in England, folks), you need to find a new hobby. One that, perhaps, doesn't involve limiting information, or making judgements regarding how much public acclaim people need to have to be included in a resource not of your making.

[identity profile] hanabishirecca.livejournal.com 2007-08-24 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, it seems the Wikipirate deleted but later re-introduced you in the Cthulu entry.

You didn't need to credit me but thanks all the same. :)

[identity profile] filkertom.livejournal.com 2007-08-24 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey. Got the idea from you, you get the credit. :)

[identity profile] filkertom.livejournal.com 2007-08-24 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Fuck me.

Well, I'm not gonna play in that sandbox right this second, but I did also write "Cthulhu Ctharols", "Cthulhu Lite FM", "House At Cthulhu Corner", "Rupert Holmes Meets H. P. Lovecraft", and the short story "The Thing In The Crib".

You, sir, consist of at least seven distinct varieties of win.

[identity profile] hanabishirecca.livejournal.com 2007-08-24 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
And now you have made my day. Thanks!

[identity profile] ladysmith.livejournal.com 2007-08-25 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
THAT needs to be on a button. Or metaquoted. May I?

[identity profile] aota.livejournal.com 2007-08-25 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Smith and Legend sounds good. Great song by the way.

[identity profile] moquif.livejournal.com 2007-08-25 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Great song. As for the album name, I like "May I Help You, Myth?" can you make it an album later?

[identity profile] filkertom.livejournal.com 2007-08-25 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Variations of it have been on buttons for years.

[identity profile] filkertom.livejournal.com 2007-08-25 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Whoever put in the entry -- him, or the original author -- also got the description of "Cthulhu Fthagn" wrong. It's sung entirely by and about two minor Mythos deities, Dagon and Abhoth.

The things you have to keep track of....

[identity profile] nightmarewriter.livejournal.com 2007-08-25 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
Amen, imho, "Mark H. Wilkinson" will forever be known as the dweeb who annoyed Tom Smith.

[identity profile] acelightning.livejournal.com 2007-08-25 08:04 am (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] ladysmith.livejournal.com 2007-08-25 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I know. I have at least three versions. But this one is new to me. ;-}

[identity profile] bayushisan.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Smith & Legends is an awesome title :)

[identity profile] sarekofvulcan.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, Tom, it's not actually a bad thing -- the bigger Wikipedia gets, the harder it is to actually keep it accurate. I've nominated singers for non-notability myself, and I _still_ think I made the right decision, even after this.
