My pal Fenix is seriously stressing out over the prospect of their having to postpone the film's release. I told her, they will almost certainly come up with an eleventh-hour settlement. Pun on the original comic's clock-countdown imagery, intentional.
Your pal isn't the only one who was stressing out over it, which really confused the heck out of me the first time I read this comment! =) "Who is this person? How do they know I'm stressing?! Where are the hidden cameras!"
Snicker. You're not the only one who has risen from the asses, er, ashes. I think I will mosey over to your journal and see what else there is in common. ;-)
I'm not surprised they've cut a deal - it's really in the interests of both studios to settle as quickly as possible, with relatively non-assholish terms on either side. On the other hand, yes, very pleased to hear it happened quickly enough to not postpone the release.
I've been on the edge of my seat waiting for word on this, and while I still have some gigantic freakin' reservations about the direction they're taking some things, by now I am squarely on the side of the good outweighing the bad. Each trailer just has SO much that looks like comic panels made real, that I can forgive a few changes.
I actually think this could end up being a GOOD thing, in a weird way. The money being split amongst companies, and any money for any future sequels and spinoffs being split as well, that will make people less willing to try to make a sequel. Which if its a hit, someone will try. We all know it.
