ConClave Schedule and Other Places To Be

It should be a fab weekend, with great guests (Michelle West, Theresa Mather, Lee Carrol and Anne Brett) and lots of friends, including Anne, huskiebear, markbernstein, trektone, sazettel, billroper and daisy_knotwise and the girls, bedlamhouse, unkbar (dunno if Joanne will be there, but I hope so), drzarron and dhstein and Sabrina, que_sara_sara and the Chocolate ritual, catalana, maiac, jimhines, so many more -- just a damn lot going on with great people. Here, more or less, is what I'm doing:

• Friday 7:00 pm -- second half of a concert (first half with Michael "Moonwolf" Longcor)
• Saturday 10:00 am -- panel on Using Your Laptop As A Home Studio
• Saturday 1:00 pm -- Iron Filker
• Saturday 5:00 pm -- concert (Wolf's second concert follows)
• Sunday 1:00 -- helping Mark with a performance tips panel

If you're not in the SE Michigan area, however, there are lots of other cons this weekend. Heck, just within driving distance there's Con on the Cob in Akron (which features most of the rest of The FuMP, including lukeski, pixelene, partiallyclips, wormquartet, devospice, powersalad, and more).

There's also Archon in suburban St. Louis, with Laurell K. Hamilton, muskrat_john, a rock-solid filk run by mofilker, ericcoleman and toyboatband, lukeski again [with dement1a], and, oh yeah, the cast of Cinematic Titanic.

And, if you're in the mood for comics and media but mostly comics, there's Mid-Ohio Con in Columbus, with Chris Claremont, Len Wein, Alan Davis, Joe Kubert, Alan Dean Foster, etc., etc., etc.

And there are even more conventions across the country, some of which are mentioned in comments below. All in all, a pretty great weekend, fandom-wise.

So, what's your plan for the weekend?

ETA: How could I forget the excellent FenCon in Dallas, TX? Gregory Benford, Real Musgrave, and, oh yeah, Three Weird Sisters (so I guess ladyat isn't gonna be up here, sigh, but that means you guys get her and quadrivium and weirdsister) and one of the last appearances together of the Brobdingnagian Bards (Andrew McKee and marcgunn).

My plans for the weekend depend on Scott's schedule. At this point, we know he's probably working at least 3 a.m. to 7 a.m. Saturday. We don't know about the rest of Saturday or Sunday. He's afraid he'll have to work both days.

Fall is a busy time for making plastic bottles, so I'll probably be trying to keep Cordelia entertained.

I'm heading to the OH Ren Faire with my family tomorrow, then all day Sunday I'm at the university's Fall Festival, helping wrangle the hired band for the concert that night. Should be fun, though..these guys are a great group.

Last weekend we had Conjecture 2008 (http://2008.conjecture.org/index.php) here in San Diego. This weekend I am on the sound crew for The Train Song Festival (http://www.sdfolkheritage.org/?q=node/216).

Well, since you asked, I'm participating in the local Step Out for Diabetes walk with some of my sweeties and metamours. The short version: I've been diabetic for over 14 years myself. In that time, I've lost a friend and an uncle to complications from diabetes and had several friends and family members diagnosed with it as well. While I think there are much worse things that one can contract, this is obviously an issue that is close to my heart.

On a more light-hearted note, rain or shine, I'll be wearing my kilt for the walk!

Saturday is an SCA event: University of Atlantia, only about an hour from home. Sunday we'll probably go to Union Station (DC) for its centennial celebration, followed by a birthday dinner for montuos.

Well, the older Kinder all have soccer or football games on Saturday and Sunday we will be spending part of the day at OH Ren. And I get to show of Lucille so all of our friends there who had no idea I was pregnant. I'm looking forward to the middle November no more games, I'll have my Saturdays free again.

I'm mostly doing some Tease-o-Rama (http://www.teaseorama.com) events this weekend, and going to a book reading with Neil Gaiman (http://www.booksmith.com/gaiman.html) on Sunday. Tomorrow I'll be helping out at Fort Michilimackinac's Archaeology Day events. From what I'm told this means I'll be talking to people about archaeology at the Fort, which is something I love to do. 8-) Then it's pulling out the Halloween decorations and stowing crap I had to get out of storage at my mom's house. And more laundry.

Not that I don't want to be at Conclave as well, but I have not yet mastered teleportation. [g]
