Weather

We actually had some rain this afternoon. Granted, it came with 50-mph wind gusts and half-inch hail, but hey.

Still stupid humid, very damn warm, heat the next couple of days. Keep being careful -- this is literally killing weather.

In other news, I have a van again. 98 Dodge Caravan. Again. It needs some work, but not that much, and it drives well and has functional A/C and everything. Once I take care of a couple of things, I'll finalize things with the old van and move on.

And how's your week looking?

An hour and forty minutes, five bucks. And spiffy art by the incredible Lar DeSouza (which I think will work very well for a recurring Live Show cover).

Bandcamp

Awhile back, the lovely [profile] s00j and her consort K told me about Bandcamp, a fairly new and extremely cool indie music site -- basically CD Baby on steroids. I have started uploading stuff there, and I was just hoping some of you might take a look. The only album I have up so far is And They Say I've Got Talent. This isn't a call to buy, just check out and see if everything looks functional. The spiffing up will come as I upload more.

Thanks.

ETA: Plugged is also up now.

Really, it's just a big fat guy sitting in the middle of the screen.

Singing "Storm Dancing".

Thanks to [personal profile] blackpaladin.

Okay.

Tomorrow morning. 9:00 a.m. EDT. Assembly Line Concert. Specifically, the video feed.

Can anybody capture it for me? I have Replay Video Catcher, which will do the job, but I won't be home to activate it. ;)

A Reminder

I'm performing at the Assembly Line Concert on Tuesday morning at 9:00 a.m. EDT. If you can't make it there (and, honestly, if you're not within normal striking distance, don't try it, you'll be going through suburban Oakland County during morning rush hour), you can watch online. Every time I've tuned in, the performer or band has been pretty good to very good. Nice to know we've got so many fine performers in S.E. Michigan. :)

So. Anyone actually have a chance of getting there?
filkertom: (Default)
I'm probably going to post this a few times over the next several days: I'm playing at the Assembly Line Concert. Originally scheduled for ten days, it's going for thirteen; my set is at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, the 31st. If you can't be there, you can watch online right now.

The web site does not list me properly, by the way -- somebody combined me with another group, and I'm "Tom Smith the Impalla". In e-mail, the guy in charge apologized, but they're not gonna update the page anymore. Sigh.

(I may post this again today, as a test of the new Artist Blog feature at The FuMP.)

ETA: Apparently, I don't have to -- the RSS feed caught the last week or so and put it right on my blog at The FuMP. I can see that it doesn't want to embed video, so I may just go to text links for that.

Me at AnthroCon 2006 (h/t [livejournal.com profile] giza):
filkertom: (Default)
It should be a fab weekend, with great guests (Michelle West, Theresa Mather, Lee Carrol and Anne Brett) and lots of friends, including Anne, [livejournal.com profile] huskiebear, [livejournal.com profile] markbernstein, [livejournal.com profile] trektone, [livejournal.com profile] sazettel, [livejournal.com profile] billroper and [livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise and the girls, [livejournal.com profile] bedlamhouse, [livejournal.com profile] unkbar (dunno if Joanne will be there, but I hope so), [livejournal.com profile] drzarron and [livejournal.com profile] dhstein and Sabrina, [livejournal.com profile] que_sara_sara and the Chocolate ritual, [livejournal.com profile] catalana, [livejournal.com profile] maiac, [livejournal.com profile] jimhines, so many more -- just a damn lot going on with great people. Here, more or less, is what I'm doing:
  • Friday 7:00 pm -- second half of a concert (first half with Michael "Moonwolf" Longcor)
  • Saturday 10:00 am -- panel on Using Your Laptop As A Home Studio
  • Saturday 1:00 pm -- Iron Filker
  • Saturday 5:00 pm -- concert (Wolf's second concert follows)
  • Sunday 1:00 -- helping Mark with a performance tips panel
If you're not in the SE Michigan area, however, there are lots of other cons this weekend. Heck, just within driving distance there's Con on the Cob in Akron (which features most of the rest of The FuMP, including [livejournal.com profile] lukeski, [livejournal.com profile] pixelene, [livejournal.com profile] partiallyclips, [livejournal.com profile] wormquartet, [livejournal.com profile] devospice, [livejournal.com profile] powersalad, and more).

There's also Archon in suburban St. Louis, with Laurell K. Hamilton, [livejournal.com profile] muskrat_john, a rock-solid filk run by [livejournal.com profile] mofilker, [livejournal.com profile] ericcoleman and [livejournal.com profile] toyboatband, [livejournal.com profile] lukeski again [with [livejournal.com profile] dement1a], and, oh yeah, the cast of Cinematic Titanic.

And, if you're in the mood for comics and media but mostly comics, there's Mid-Ohio Con in Columbus, with Chris Claremont, Len Wein, Alan Davis, Joe Kubert, Alan Dean Foster, etc., etc., etc.

And there are even more conventions across the country, some of which are mentioned in comments below. All in all, a pretty great weekend, fandom-wise.

So, what's your plan for the weekend?

ETA: How could I forget the excellent FenCon in Dallas, TX? Gregory Benford, Real Musgrave, and, oh yeah, Three Weird Sisters (so I guess [livejournal.com profile] ladyat isn't gonna be up here, sigh, but that means you guys get her and [livejournal.com profile] quadrivium and [livejournal.com profile] weirdsister) and one of the last appearances together of the Brobdingnagian Bards (Andrew McKee and [livejournal.com profile] marcgunn).

ETA2: I'm fixin' as fast as I can.... ;)
filkertom: (Default)
I can has ad at Kevin & Kell. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] huskiebear for putting in the musical notes.

ETA: If you're having trouble seeing it, it may be a browser setting or a pop-up or ad blocker. What was nuking it for me in Firefox was the NoScript plugin; as soon as I allowed kevinandkell.com to run scripts, there it was.

[livejournal.com profile] partiallyclips, me, and [livejournal.com profile] scifantasy doing "Rich Fantasy Lives" at the Pegasus Nominee Concert last Friday night. [livejournal.com profile] judifilksign is the lovely lady doing the ASL interp. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] hms42 for catching this, and I'm pretty sure [livejournal.com profile] johno is the guy who actually posted it.
filkertom: (Default)
Third, I'm in the Ann ARRRbor News (on the front page of the dead tree edition, no less). And, as [livejournal.com profile] jrtom (a couple of threads ago) and Debbie G. (in e-mail) noted, I'm actually invoked by Reuters.

ARRR! Remember that, as of midnight, the official chanty for Talk Like A Pirate Day will be free, free, gloriously free!

ETA: I fixed the link. PLEASE tell me about such things in e-mail, mmkay?

At Dragon*Con, some young guy from the Carolina Otaku Uprising handed me a DVD-R, saying he hoped I liked it. I did. It was this:

Avast, ye scurvy dogs! I figger this be the best place ta be announcin' this announcement.

Inspired by the jibber-jabber from the Wikipedia thread, particularly [livejournal.com profile] kightp's sad tale of the lonely, cave-ridden lubbers what had never heard o' International Talk Like A Pirate Day, this year's TLAPD is gonna be special.

First, as of that day I'm puttin' a high-quality MP3 of the album version of the song up as a permanent freebie. Those of ye who've bought it in the past, I thankee fer supportin' the artist -- that'd be me -- and I think now's a good time ta make it a giveaway.

Second, I'll be havin' a sale on pretty much everything. But ONLY if ye know the Secret Pirate Code. Which is "ARRR". Think ye can manage that? I'll repeat it a few times before then. I'm gonna make sure all th' damn PayPal buttons have the option fer a discount code or a note ta me or somethin', and typing in ARRR will get ye a hunk off yer order -- not sure, but likely 15%.

Third, I'm hopin' (not promisin', mind) ta have iTom 4.0 done by then. If'n ye ain't got any of the iTom albums, there'll be a special deal fer gettin' all four at once. Prob'ly $30.00.

Thank ye.

Now, then. Ye've got less than a month. What're your plans fer Th' Big Day?

I posted this on the iTom page, but thought I'd repost it here.

I am very sorry I've fallen behind on the songs. It has just been a very busy time for me, and I ended up working myself sick. (I'm feeling a good deal better now.) I may have something in the next two days, but if not it'll likely be next week.

It seems like a good time to tell you my plans for iTom. First, thanks so much for all of you who've been listening, giving me feedback, getting the RSS feeds, and buying the songs. I really appreciate it; it is, in fact, what makes it all worth it.

Second, I'm going to finish up this album -- I hope before Dragon*Con -- and then take a bit of a break. Not all that long. A song every few weeks, most likely, rather than every week.

(Heh. I wanted to prove to myself that I could do a song a week, and then I berated myself for falling short... but I forgot to count commission jobs, The FuMP, and a few things I did just for grins. I actually wrote and recorded almost seventy songs in the past year.)

Third, iTom will start up full-swing again at the beginning of the year. Because that's how I'm going to initially release Sounds Familiar, the studio versions of almost everything on the first two tapes.

Good timely schedule, too -- Dodeka is finally, formally getting out of the cassette business. So hang onto those tapes... they're collector's items. ;)

Anyway, it's Con Season, and I've got a few commission jobs to finish up, and more FuMP stuff to write, and, oh yeah, four more songs for this iTom album. And I just wanted to let you all know what was going on, and say Thank You Very Much for your support. It means everything to me, because this is no fun without you.
filkertom: (Default)
The first (and I hope only) cover. I'm gonna make it the bonus track on iTom 4.0, but you can always download the lo-res version for free. I theoretically could've had it done Friday, the actual anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, but I really wasn't feeling good, and I wanted it to be done right, and I think it was worth the extra time.

Please excuse the whining I'm about to indulge myself in.

I've been sick for most of the past week and a half, and I'm trying to finish up several things at once -- commission jobs, HTML interfaces for iTom 2.0 and 3.0, songs for iTom and The FuMP, Dragon*Con stuff, Real Life Stuff, Big Book is on the back burner again (but not for long), other stuff, and then the frickin' HP book came out....

I'm tired. And I'm behind on a bunch of stuff. And I promise I'll catch up. But I've made a promise to myself that, after Dragon*Con, I'm going to take a real rest. At least a week doing nothing. No music, no web stuff. I might go find a pool.

How are you doing today?

Commercial

[livejournal.com profile] lukeski is coming out with a DVD, and he generously offered space to his friends in the funny music community to come up with a commercial for themselves. Mine is here. You'll need the DivX codec. If you'd rather, there's a much lower resolution Flash version.

Just thought you might find it interesting. :)
