Dragon*Con Stuff

Peter Jurasik hugged me.

So did Lois Bujold.

Peter David remembered me fifteen years after I'd met him.

William Shatner complimented me as he walked by.

Don Maitz thanked me for the pirate songs I've written.

Lots of people said my fifteen minutes at the Awards Banquet were the highlight of the evening.

Even the waitstaff enjoyed it, and told me so.

And, in the middle of my later concert (which was disjointed 'cause I was on an adrenalin high but still way fun), [profile] devospice informed us that The FuMP had just won the PARSEC award for Best Speculative Fiction Music podcast.

Reeeeeeeeeal good night.

Remember, you can hug Lois back in less than two weeks.
She's the GoH at FenCon VI in Dallas.

If William Shatner complimented me I'd pass out.

'cause i'm nerdy like that.

[identity profile] allandaros.livejournal.com 2009-09-06 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
Holy crap, dude, that's awesome!

(The only way it could be better is if you got a hug from Claudia Christian.)

Nothin' to say, just icon-spamming with Londo Mollari.

We weren't at dragonCon

[identity profile] capplor.livejournal.com 2009-09-06 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
but we met http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Bakker & he named a dinosaur after our daughter.

So good days all around!

That is just... so.... Wow.

Soooo happy for you, everyone should have nights like that.

[identity profile] lukeski.livejournal.com 2009-09-06 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
Hey Tom, if you happen to run into Peter Jurasik again before the con ends, can you give him a copy of "Target: Audience"? I'd love for him to hear "Just Mister Londo" and "No Sleep Till Babylon".

Holy shit, banner evening. Not that I'm surprised that you were so popular. 'Congrats' is the word of the hour, I think.

Gorram awesome! I'm sorry I missed it all! Sounds like a spectacular time is being had at D*C.

[identity profile] kkatowll.livejournal.com 2009-09-06 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
The concert was more fun because you were so happy! And I was very glad, after what happened last time. Tell us what you said/sang that got so many compliments. I'm dying of curiousity!

We are all might proud to know you, Mr. Smith. Glad these famous folks have the good sense to appreciate you.

[identity profile] mihai-lado.livejournal.com 2009-09-06 12:49 pm (UTC)(link)
That's really impressive. I mean, it's HARD to impress waitstaff.

[identity profile] wouldyoueva.livejournal.com 2009-09-06 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Congrats to you.

And this is definitely tipping me in favor of DragonCon over NASFiC next summer.

Congrats on well deserved acclaim. You are a great ambassador for music in fandom.

Congrats to the FuMP too, for winning an award I haven't heard of but sounds neat.

Dude, on the scale of Fans, BnF's, SmoF's, and GoH's...you're a SmoF of GoH's !!

1) I thought Peter Jurasic was dead. Glad you got to meet him before that happens.

2) Glad you got to perform at the banquet. I remember when another funny music artist was cheated out of that honor, although I won't dredge over that sad experience again.

3) In all honesty, I've attended a few of these banquets, and aside from a Harlan Ellison assault on a hired MC who foolishly tried to mock him, they've been dull. Especially considering the high level of talent assembled for the banquets. Maybe you showed them how to do it right.

4) Am I correct in assuming that the meal was that same politically-correct cheese ravioli and mild tomato sauce as in previous years?
