"Monster Derecho"? It Means "BIG EFFING STORM"

There is an interestingly-shaped wedge of storms working its way through Missouri and southern Illinois right now. According to weatherdude at Daily Kos, this sucker can act like "a 100 mile wide tornado". If you happen to be in its path (southeasterly towards Indianapolis), HUNKER DOWN and stay safe. And check in after, so we know you're all right.

Fortunately it looks like it won't hit my area until this afternoon, which is after my interview this morning. I hope everyone makes it through!

Well, the house is still standing, though there's some tree damage at the office, and the roof hatch blew off at the office, leading to some water problems...
It was really rather impressive. My cats probably would not agree with my sense of awe on this. :P

One of these demolished my old neighborhood about ten years ago. It peeled half of a duplex off *vertically* and dumped pieces of it for two blocks. It also removed every outside air conditioner on my side of the street, caused my power meter stand to disappear forever, and rolled a chain link fence into a yarn ball.

Take this seriously, folks. When the gust front hits, you could die.
