Say there, campers! Got a robo-call from "Lamont Williams" lately? Or some other suspicious foofrah regarding mail-in vote registration? Well, you could be one of the many, many people targeted by a group called "Women's Voices, Women Vote" -- which apparently really sucks and is doing everything it can to confuse, i.e., fucking disenfranchise, voters in numerous states.

This is merely one of the results of the win-at-any-cost style of politics has brought us. They keep trying to game our goddamn votes. (Yes, yes, I know about the SCOTUS debacle from the other day. And, yes, yes, I know that Scalia is a particularly vile bucket of scum, as if that's news, but I guess it is to some people.)

Are you registered to vote? If not, find out about it now and get registered now.

Thanks to Atrios for the heads-up on this one.

If you're a Michigan voter, you can use Publius.org to check your voter registration, find out where your polling place is, and things like that. (Nowadays, it's a good idea to check the site before an election to make sure you weren't "accidentally" purged from the voter rolls.)

The site also provides other election-related information.

Ah mon ami: I've been registered since 1972 (when they lowered the voting age and that's all I'm going to disclose about my age) And I've voted in every election since, including primaries...AND I've dragged the husband to vote as well. No electorate come lately here. Alas, I couldn't work for any political party for 30 years since I was a federal drone, but now that I'm retired, watch out...

Elaine

PS See you at Marcon.

I need an official address.

On the bright side, my vote is REALLY needed, since I (and that guy who shares this account) are moving from a "blue" state to a "red" one. I am certainly going to register ASAP.

Some places, you're also going to need picture ID, even if you're registered. This is harder than it sounds, especially for poor and old people who may not have a copy of the relevant proof-of-citizenship documents. Everyone who can, I suggest getting a state ID card as soon as you can, if possible before 11 May, when the Real ID requirements are going to kick in and make it all much harder. If you're in one of the states resisting Real ID, a passport is probably a good idea.

Papers, citizen?

Ditto. Well, I'm registered at my old address, but it won't be my residence come voting time. I'll definitely reregister once I have a new address.

Y'know... I *loathe* the RICO laws. But I'd love to see them used against these jerks.

First, it'd shutr down a widespread abuse. Second, if they squawk loud enough, it'd help get the damned laws off the books.

Win-win. :-)

This is nothing. The show hasn't even started. This is just the orchestra getting seated, preparing to tune up.

Be prepared for a really spectacular display of high-end, master-class, 15th degree black-belt, +10-saving-throw-against-justice, laboratory-grade evil skillz on display between now and November, particularly in districts with a preponderance of minority voters.

Think of it: we know what went on in 2000 and 2004. This year (barring HRC gaming the system so heinously that voters will turn away from her in droves and make it a moot point), there will be a black man on the Democratic ticket.

Either way, it's going to get very ugly out there. The South will do it's damndest to, once and for all, and when it really counts, rise again. There will be blood on the ground. There will be news blackouts, and the other kind as well. Shit that isn't normally on fire will get all hot and burning-y.

I hope I'm wrong. But if I'm not, I hope, in a sick way, that it's really, really, really bad (albeit with a very low human casualty to property damage ratio).

Because this country is in desperate need of a bloodletting, in the medieval medical sense. We need serum of ipecac in the holy-water supply. Some electro-shock gene therapy. I'm talking about a deep, relentless, painful reaming-out and cleansing of the zeitgeist.

An Enema of the People, if you will.
