Are you ready for this shit:
Australian scientists have successfully revived and reactivated the genome of an extinct frog. The "Lazarus Project" team implanted cell nuclei from tissues collected in the 1970s and kept in a conventional deep freezer for 40 years into donor eggs from a distantly-related frog. Some of the eggs spontaneously began to divide and grow to early embryo stage with tests confirming the dividing cells contained genetic material from the extinct frog.

[...]

Although none of the embryos survived longer than a few days, the work is encouraging for others looking to clone a variety of currently-extinct animals, such as the woolly mammoth, dodo, Cuban red macaw and New Zealand’s giant moa.

[...]

“We’re increasingly confident that the hurdles ahead are technological and not biological and that we will succeed. Importantly, we’ve demonstrated already the great promise this technology has as a conservation tool when hundreds of the world’s amphibian species are in catastrophic decline.”
I bet none of these guys have ever even heard of Jurassic Park.

Oh yeah. Seanan, Amy, Evil Stevie, and the whole Chicago gang. I still have forty million things to do; I'll try to finish at least eighteen of 'em this afternoon. I have a concert Saturday afternoon, a set at the Masquerade, and I'm running Whose Line Is It Anyway? on Sunday.

Les and I will be there today -- who else?

You really have to watch this video. And then, once you can no longer be spoiled, you can go here to find out more about it.

And then you can discuss your own ideas for similar videos. Heh heh heh.

Holy crap, this actually does look like scary fun. Gonna be tough, though -- the original is a classic, one of the best combining humor and horror. Can Colin Ferrell out-Sarandon Chris Sarandon? Can David Tennant, wonder though he is, possibly live up to the reputation of Roddy McDowall's Peter Vincent? Can those two ladies -- the girlfriend and the mom -- be any sexier? Nah, I didn't think so either. And what of Evil Ed?

Thoughts?

First watch this. Then watch this.

Looks as if the setting has been rather altered from the original manga, but it also looks very cool and possibly even scary (an ironic rarity with modern "horror" movies), and it's got a great cast.

We're just about at that magic point, the summer movie season. Thor, Captain America, Harry Potter 7B, just a gang o' stuff. What can't you wait for? Link up to trailers if you have 'em.

This stopped me in my tracks for a minute.

I've been trying to make Herbert West: The Musical work for over a year now. I didn't even know this existed, and I looked.

On the other hand, my HW is dark -- very dark, not much comedy at all. The play is based on the movie, and directed by the same guy, Stuart Gordon. I presume and hope that never the twain shall meet.

Still... frustrating.

This will take a touch of back story.

Some years ago, one of us (I think it was Anne) noticed that 11:11 on a digital clock kinda resembled a Giger Alien smiling at you in the dark. Since then, at least for Anne, Les, Da Bear, and I, 11:11 has been "Alien Tooth Time".

I mention this because The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be released next year, on 11•11•11.

It seems to involve a brand-new game engine, a continuation of the epic from TES4: Oblivion, and -- oh yeah -- dragons.

All I can say is, that music hit -- with the underlying theme Jeremy Soule wrote for TES3: Morrowind, music I've known and loved for almost ten years now -- and I was laughing and punching the air with my fist and YES!

And it's released on Alien Tooth Time Day. How cool is that?

Any games coming soon that you need to get, or you're looking forward to? I will eventually get Fallout: New Vegas, I just got Puzzle Quest 2 from Big Fish (only $6.99!) the other day, and Dragon Age 2 looms over the horizon....
