STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS Trailer

Aug. 15. Looks better than the rest of the increasingly misnamed prequel "trilogy", and it's got at least some of the voices, but it still takes itself so damn seriously.

Here's what I loathe about this. I loved the cartoon show, "Clone Wars." The art was amazing. In fact, it had more of a Star Wars feel to me than the prequel movies did. When I heard they were going to do more with it, I flipped out.

But that's the problem. They're using all of Genndy Tartakovsky's character designs - but not Genndy Tartakovsky. Nor anyone else from the cartoon show, "Clone Wars." They're springboarding off of someone else's work to make... this. And, frankly, I don't think they can do it. Tartakovsky brought some heart in it - his character designs, his writing (as well as the fellow writers) - they made it theirs, even though it had to fit into Lucas's vision.

This is Lucas playing with someone else's version of his work - and frankly, he couldn't even make his vision of the prequel trilogy work (I still refuse to see the third movie, even though people swear it's the best of the three - I refuse to buy another movie ticket for a movie who's predecessors let me down so horribly).

I don't plan to see it. I love the SW trilogy, and even liked enough of the prequel trilogy that I might someday buy it, but the franchise feels dead to me. If the come out with something that happens after Episode 6, I might be interested.. or (*cough*Splinter of the Mind's Eye*cough*) I might not, who knows.

It's worse than that — it's a lame attempt to map Tartakovsky's 2D character designs onto 3D CGI.

It looks not like a movie trailer, but like an ad for a not-terribly-good video game.

I will most definitely pass.

Yup. They're also turning THIS into a TV show - again, without the people who did the original, WONDERFUL 2-D cartoon.

Yeah, not a big fan of the animation in this one. The character design just looks plain silly. I think this is going in the 'Wait until the DVD comes out' pile.

But the good news is that one of the main writers on this series is George Krstic, the guy who was the co-creator of MTV's Downtown and Megas XLR. This might be OK in spite of the bizarro CGI animation. The movie is actually a few television episodes re-rendered for theatrical resolution.

Besides, the entire Prequel trilogy was bizarro CGI animation.

My question is, if they're gonna make a new Star Wars movie with (mostly) latter-trilogy characters, why not make it live-action? I know it's based on a cartoon, but still...

Actually, scratch that. My question is, how exactly do Hutts reproduce? That's just weird to think about.

And CGI Jabba looks incredibly stupid. He's not slimy-looking at all.
