Yeah, I'm an atheist. So what?

There are many things from which I might have derived good, by which I have not profited, I dare say... Christmas among the rest. But I am sure I have always thought of Christmas time, when it has come round--apart from the veneration due to its sacred name and origin, if anything belonging to it can be apart from that--as a good time; a kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time; the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow-passengers to the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys. And therefore, uncle, though it has never put a scrap of gold or silver in my pocket, I believe that it has done me good, and will do me good; and I say, God bless it!

My friends, my fans, my sparring partners on this LJ, I love you all so much. You keep me sane, you make my career worthwhile, you get all the jokes, you give so much of yourselves. I could not do this without you, and it wouldn't be worth it if I could.

I don't celebrate Christmas, I celebrate my family's celebration of Christmas. I certainly don't get upset when someone wishes me a Merry Christmas (or any other wish for me to have a good fortune and well-being, for that matter!)

Amazing how people get bent out of shape because good wishes are not expressed in precisely the manner they demand, innit? I celebrate because it's a time of celebration. The year's over, the harvest is in, the solstice brings the turning of the seasons, the big box stores have shit on sale, and most of all people make time for each other. As you do, posting here. For someone with an awful horrid handle, you're a right guy. :)
