Ogre Reborn
Apr. 11th, 2012 06:33 pmOne of the very, very best board games of all time is one of the simplest: Steve Jackson's Ogre.
Simple concept: On one side, there's an army. On the other side, there's a monstrous tank with an partly-organic brain and no mercy. Hook 'em up.
Since 2008, Steve and his merry cohorts have been working on a super-spiff update. And, since said super-spiff update will retail for $100, it's likely to have limited appeal to the casual gamer. Soooo... he decided to Kickstart it.
The basic level of contributions, $20,000, has been met, insuring that the game will exist. But there are other goals to be met, to make the game even cooler, and even if those goals aren't met this is the best (really, the only) way to pre-order this fourteen-pound beast of a boardgame.
Me? I'm doing music for one of their promotional videos. I'm already in. ;) Which may not stop me from buying extra dice or a shirt or somethin'.
Any crowdfunded projects we should be reminded of?
UPDATE: The $40,000 stretch goal has been passed, so there will be online 3D blank Ogre models, so you can print, color, and build your own Mark III and Mark V Ogres. And they're less than $4,000 from the $75,000 goal, at which point SJG will include an exclusive Kickstarter counter sheet for every Kickstarter copy of the game.
