Matt Smith as The Doctor. (Here's a closer look.)

He looks like someone's gonna come along and dump his books and then stuff him in his locker.

Oh geeze, when they said they were making Dr Who more a kid-friendly program, I didn't think they meant they were having a kid playing The Doctor!! This is not looking good...

I kind of like it. Very Edwardian professor-ish. And it kind of works against all the rumors that Eleven was going to be much more dark and brooding.

...which will then dematerialize...

More pictures here. (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1200883/Matt-Smith-begins-filming-new-Doctor-Who.html)

I think he looks fantastic, personally.

You know I kinda dig the outfit. Makes me think of Troughton. Here's hoping that he'll be good.

That really is the hope. What footage I've seen of him in other things, e.g., The Secret Diary of a Call Girl with Billie Piper, he simply didn't impress me at all.

Yeah, that's all I've seen him in and it took me a while to realize that's who the hell it was. Course, there were several who actors on that show. I admit, though, I really wasn't paying attention to Matt Smith. There was only one reason I watched that show, but I digress.

I guess my thing is. Tom Baker was hounded in the press when he first was announced as the doctor and he then turned out to be one of the best if not the best. While I don't wanna hold Smith up to that idea of being Baker, it's quite possible that when we see him in the role it will kinda blow us away. Here's hoping at least.

At least he doesn't have question marks all up and down his lapels. I swear that outfit made me think he was the Riddler or something.

Well, he looks more like A Doctor to me now in costume than he has in any of the previously-released photos. I don't know that he looks like The Doctor to me yet, but I suppose closer is better. We'll see. I remember thinking that Tim Burton had lost his mind, casting Michael Keaton as Batman, and look how well that turned out.

I am already on board for this new Companion, however. Please, sirs, may we have some more?

It's so nice to see Crispin Glover working again.

Wait, what?

Marty McFly: "Doctor! You need to have sex with Lea Thompson or I'll never be born!"
Doctor: "I don't think it works that way. Get back to your own universe, kid..."

You know, I am actually more exited to see Moffat's work than I am about the Doctors new outfit?

Edit:

I mean, Stephen Moffat... I have friends who still get the creeps if I cover my face with my hands.
Blink, Silence in the Library, Forest of the Dead... and this man is getting more to say about the entire series and plot arcs? I'm a-tingle.

Eccentric clothes are always welcome from a Doctor.

I will reserve any other comment till we see him and his companion and the new series. And until I am done enjoying Tennant's run.

It's just not all that iconic. Ah well.
I was more worried about rumors they'd bring back Donna Noble. At least they aren't doing that.

My first impression is Do Not Want, but I felt that way about Tennant at first, and I ended up loving Tennant more than Eccelston. So I hold out hope.

He dresses like one of the history teachers at Deerfield. (Not one I had, but someone else in the department.) As far as I can tell from this picture and without digging up a yearbook, it's exactly like. So... that's funny! And kinda weird.

My first thoughts when I saw the pic were:

1. ewww, but ok I can run with it.
2. If her legs were any smaller would they actually hold her up?

I am reserving judgment until I see them in action. I've not seen him in anything so I have no preconceived notions and can have him pure in the experience of the Doctor. I thought I wasn't going to like Tennant as well as Eccleston and ended up loving him. Hope springs eternal. :)
