Today is the 107th anniversary of the premiere of the tone poem Finlandia by Jean Sibelius. (You can download it for free here, performed by the Northwestern State University [Natchitoches, LA] 2001 Marching Band.) It's one of my favorite pieces. It's astonishing how the opening sequence sounds like a wall of forboding glaciers and ice floe.
I first heard this music, or at least the first few notes, on Jonny Quest. What's your favoriteclassical instrumental music that's been adapted to animation? Go wild, any and all sources -- Fantasia, various Warner Bros. cartoons, Tom & Jerry's "Cat Concerto", Allegro Non Tropo, whatever. If it's something we're all not as familiar with, so much the better.
ETA: I changed "classical" to "instrumental". I wanted to allow things like Raymond Scott's "Powerhouse"; and I didn't want to leave it open to bad pop songs that have been cobbled into various animated features.
