By way of Atrios: A school in New York, terrified that some of its students might be terrorists, has banned all small bags -- including backpacks... and purses. Right at the prime age for young women to deal with their own puberty and sexuality, and all the messy mechanics thereof. The current "policy", not kidding, is that female students can carry a purse or small bag when they're on their period.
