The con is definitely helping us get over the bad taste of Thursday. Nice afternoon, hanging out with people in the Con Suite and setting aside a couple of books to get from Larry (including starting my
andpuff collection at last) and watching the Bards concert (they were in fine form as usual) and helping
markbernstein with one of his two songs.
And then
huskiebear and I needed to find food.
The initial thought was Ruby Tuesday, but it was hard to get to -- the parking lot layouts around here are really weird -- and we finally decided to try "Barbecue Kitchen", an unprepossessing (read: potentially Bates-Motel-level) building wedged between the fast-food.
Cash only. I was encouraged.
Strange smell going in. Definitely vinegary, Les said "smoky", strange jumble. I got the "barbecued pork platter", which came with Brunswick stew, beans, coleslaw, and corn muffins. $8.50.
There was at least a frickin' pound of excellent chopped pork. Nice BBQ sauce. Tangy beans. Nice stew. Cole slaw perhaps a bit sweet, but very cooling.
Meanwhile, Les got fried chicken, with biscuits and mashed potatoes... and rutabaga! Wonderful, just a touch of a bite after about ten seconds -- dunno if there was nutmeg, or if they mixed in some radish, or what. I should remember to make rutabaga more often. Just great.
Just under $20 for the best meal we've had all week. And a lot of leftover BBQ pork.
What's for dinner tonight at your place?
