The con is definitely helping us get over the bad taste of Thursday. Nice afternoon, hanging out with people in the Con Suite and setting aside a couple of books to get from Larry (including starting my [livejournal.com profile] andpuff collection at last) and watching the Bards concert (they were in fine form as usual) and helping [livejournal.com profile] markbernstein with one of his two songs.

And then [livejournal.com profile] huskiebear and I needed to find food.

The initial thought was Ruby Tuesday, but it was hard to get to -- the parking lot layouts around here are really weird -- and we finally decided to try "Barbecue Kitchen", an unprepossessing (read: potentially Bates-Motel-level) building wedged between the fast-food.

Cash only. I was encouraged.

Strange smell going in. Definitely vinegary, Les said "smoky", strange jumble. I got the "barbecued pork platter", which came with Brunswick stew, beans, coleslaw, and corn muffins. $8.50.

There was at least a frickin' pound of excellent chopped pork. Nice BBQ sauce. Tangy beans. Nice stew. Cole slaw perhaps a bit sweet, but very cooling.

Meanwhile, Les got fried chicken, with biscuits and mashed potatoes... and rutabaga! Wonderful, just a touch of a bite after about ten seconds -- dunno if there was nutmeg, or if they mixed in some radish, or what. I should remember to make rutabaga more often. Just great.

Just under $20 for the best meal we've had all week. And a lot of leftover BBQ pork.

What's for dinner tonight at your place?
