I found out about this when I was in High School Geology class mumble years ago, my teacher was there and took lots of photos.

He made sure all the students understood erosion, waster erosion and how LARGE the falls actually are.

When I used to live near the Falls I would tell people about it and they wouldn't believe me cause I was just a kid and a female.
Then they would be told by a park ranger all the details.

Nice to remember something NICE about high school.

I grew up in Tonawanda NY, about 20 miles away from the Falls. I don't remember going there in the summer of '69 when they did this work. But my mom has a painting of the dry falls. It's hanging in her basement.

We went up there on vacation that year

The empty falls on the American side were interesting, but the doubled falls on the Canadian side were AWESOME!

My roomie and I saw a bunch of these pictures when we visited the Falls in '08 ('69 was way before my time, LOL), and I'm so jealous that tourists got to walk along the dry Falls. That would've been awesome!

Actually the tourists were kept behind barriers for safety reasons.

My Teacher was allowed on the river bed because he got permission from the construction company and his college ahead of time.

The caption on one of the pics on Yahoo said that a temporary walkway was built within 20ft of the edge. In any case, wish I'd been able to see it! I get a rush out of that sort of thing, LOL.

Slow-ly I turned...

Dang - I'd forgotten all about that. Then again I did live on the other side of the country and was in college at the time. So I daresay I was a mite busy for paying attention. Anyway, great pictures!

We did go visit the Falls one vacation, but that was several years before. Pretty awesome (and my brother and I took advantage of his being in a wheelchair I pushed to get right up to the fence for a great view.)
