Last night was the finale. I'm just getting to watch it now. Talk talk, and we'll go into more detail later. If you can't see it, here's [profile] toyouke's summary.

Both Mike and Richard brought their A-games, and they both blew away the judges. Gail Simmons even said at Judges Table, "We're down to nit-picking." And, I'll admit it, a couple of Mike's dishes looked so frickin' amazing that I'd love to try them. And, he handled himself better (although not that much better) in the finale.

With Richard, we got... Richard. And, top to bottom, his courses simply looked fantastic.

There was a potentially awful moment at the end, where they brought in members of both chefs' families. Because one family would watch their guy lose. On the other hand, who better than family to support you at such a moment? Oh yeah, the other chefs who'd been on the road with you. They were there too.

And this season's Top Chef is...

... Richard Blais.

Everybody toasted Mike as well, with Tom specifically telling him he did great. But Blais needed the vindication, and he finally got it. Congrats to him, and to all of the chefs for a phenomenal season.

I'm happy twice over. Happy that Richard finally won, and happy that Mike . . . didn't.

I think this makes Richard King of the Top Chefs, because he did had a longer season and tougher overall competition to face than any other Top Chef winner did.

In a way, it was lucky for him that he lost his original season and won this won--more money! (And just in time for the new baby.)

:-)
