Well that's consdierably better than the first slob comedy one. Some great effects and very nifty aliens! I'm more hopeful.

I'm sorry, really, but the still I see on the imbed video looks like someone had Loki's Mask of Chaos shrunk in the wash.

I just can't take anyone or anything seriously with that lame a mask...

I really want to see this. I can't wait for it to come out as GL was always a favorite of mine.

Aww, Kilowog didn't call anyone "poozer."

Gotta admit, the oath at the end gave me goosebumps.

All right, this looks tempting. But I still wish they were making the one the Nathan Fillion trailer promised us.

Rad stuff right there. Looks like they might have a bit of fun with the constructs, too. :D

I do admit the mask, while authentic, is lame. Especially with the line, "This mask conceals your identity." It does no such thing. :D

The other thing I noticed is that Abin Sur is "[a]n alien life form... the first that mankind has ever encountered." Which means either no Superman yet, or they conveniently forget he's an alien.

I am eager to see this one, but I confess that after seeing this trailer I find myself worrying about all the aliens and alien landscapes and uniforms - do they ALL look this blatantly CGI?? I mean even Ang Lee's Hulk looked better than this. It looks like a Green Lantern version of World of Warcraft.

I can forgive bad art tho if a story is excellent, so... here's hoping.

I love the bit in LJU where Shayera tells Clark that "All you humans" are strange, then realizes who she's talking to...I imagine a lot of humans forget Superman is an alien-type superhero, and not a magic-type, meta-type, mutant-type, or some other thing you have to select at character creation.

Plus, it could be after Superman is around, but before he's admitted his origin.

Totally agree on the mask, though.

Yaknow, saganth, I was thinking the same thing at first, but then I decided that being obvious with their CG could be an interesting stylistic choice...sorta the way "Sin City" didn't try to hide all of it's rough spots and wound up looking awesome.

If done carefully, this could look really neat, and give it a surreal quality appropriate for a cosmos-spanning comic book about magic rings and planet-shaped heroes (I so would love to see Mogo in this). You just can't do "gritty realism" with Green Lanterns...why try?

I'd definitely prefer that sort of thing to accidental Hulk-style crap CG.

Who said anything about "gritty" realism? I don't need "gritty," I just need "not fake-looking"!

Given how hopelessly lame the first trailer seemed to me, we have come a long way. I still have some doubts, but this looks like it will at least be fun.

The big question is whether anyone who's not a fan already will care. The GL mythology is not exactly simple these days, and it feels like the movie is doing nothing to help newbies.

Was anyone else dying to here Kilowog say "poozer"? ;)
I have some doubts about their portrayal of Hal Jordan, but I'm already locked into seeing it...they had me at the whole every-feature-character-lantern-we-could-possibly-CGI scene w/ Sinestro addressing the corp.

Never meant to imply you did. I was just defining the extremes of comic book moviedom.

Personally, I embrace the almost childlike suspension of disbelief required to read (and watch) something like Green Lantern, and I like the idea of letting the fantastical nature manifest on screen via obviously unreal effects. Dick Tracy embraced the ludicrousness of their source material and did something similar with make-up and props in 1990, and it still looks amazing.

But that's me, and I'm from a generation that thrives on metacommentary, homage, and knowing winks. Obviously, Everybody has their own ideas on how a superhero movie should be done. Hell, look at the very different ways directors interpreted Batman over sixty-odd (or even just 20-odd) years. If you prefer for your stories about magical sufficiently advanced technological knights using willpower-channeling Rings of Construct +5 Lantern Rings to fly through the vacuum of space and fight aliens with the power of their minds not look fake, I suspect you are far from alone.

Is it just me, or does each trailer look a good bit better than the previous ones?

Even the mask (which I still don't particularly like) seems to look a lot better than it did in the first couple of trailers.

I, personally, have no problem with any/all of the ring-related things looking very CGI, including his costume, but the mask really needs a to have a little more depth to it (although it really does seem better than before -- it initially looked like it was painted on).

I understand that DC has made the decision that all its film franchises will be separate, so Superman does not exist in this universe and neither does Batman.

Actually, I think it was a piece of Parallax that was being called the first alien mankind had ever encountered - so if I am right, the person saying it is wrong just within the events of the movie.

That said, I have to agree with your earlier comment - Gaaaaaaaaah!

I initially had doubts about the guy who played Deadpool having sufficient gravitas to play Hal (And that first trailer sure didn't help). But the new trailers have grown on me... I don't even mind the mask. It certainly is no worse than Robin's mask in the Bat movies.

I've been a rabid GL fan since the 70's, and Reynolds is starting to *be* GL for me, in the way that Christopher Reeve *became* Superman for a generation or more.

My birthday comes in late June... *Channels Fraulein Snaug* "Happy birthday to me...." =)
