Keith is spot on. We need people to question authority and question what happened if the story changes. I tend to agree that we did the right thing in killing Bin Laden, but I have no problem with, and even encourage, people asking if capturing him was an acceptable outcome.
This shows why Keith needs to be seen nationwide. "I would rather there be one question more than one question less." We need to be questioned, otherwise we get wrapped up in our own righteousness until it becomes arrogance. Conscience is that little voice that talks to us when we've might have done something wrong. Moore was that voice.
Killing OBL was the right thing. So was questioning it.
Both Keith and the commenters (wow, good comments on a political piece, whodathunkit?) hit on something I've been pounding on for years: The questioning is important. (Why WERE there four different stories?? huh? huh?) The demonization is equally important - to squash. The concept of attacking a man in place of attacking his story is so old a logical fallacy it has a Latin name: ad hominem... and it's one of the few crimes that'll get you chucked out of any forum I were to run.
I'm glad Keith - and his commenters - have the idea of having something, or someone, out into the light and having a critical, thinking look at it firmly in place. It works much better than leaving it in the dark and going "fnord, fnord!" We need more such behavior.
“We’ve lost something of our soul here in this country. Maybe I’m just an old-school American who believes in our judicial system. We’re better than them, we don’t just operate in an uncivilized way the way they did on 9/11.”
I will give Keith one thing, it is wrong to call this "intellectual liberal handwringing".
It is much more accurate to call this "contrarianism for the sake of remaining relevant and hopefully making a quick buck".
