Her cosmic powers of the mind are so awesome, she is in fact unfettered from reality.

I mention this because, if any of your friends or relatives start praising Bachmann (likely in the same tones they praised Sarah Palin in 2008), you might want to mention her special flavor of awesomeness to them.

Y'know, as a public service or somethin'.

My last name is Michele, spelled the same as her first name. When I first saw her name in the headlines, my reaction was, "Oh, good, maybe I'll get to stop saying that my name is spelled with one 'L'."

...then I read a little bit about her, and I'm horrified to have anything in common with the woman.

And who should she pick as her running mate? My congressman -- Michael Turner. If only for the name factor (Bachmann-Turner Overdrive).

But the people who liked Palin didn't care about the facts or that she was as dumb as a post and won't care that Bachmann is not in the same space-time reality as the rest of us. The majority of people in this country watch Fixed Noise and only know what they tell them.

I've been listening to all the left-leaning pundits asking in bewildered voices about what the Republicans think they're doing (a la the debt ceiling, killing medicare etc) and I've come to the conclusion that they (the Republicans and their corporate masters) really don't care what happens to the rest of the country. They really don't, so it's useless to try and make sense out of what they're doing. I honestly think they're ok with half the country just vanishing by one way or another because that means more for them.

In case you hadn't heard, here's her new quote:

"Well, what I want them to know is just like, John Wayne was from Waterloo, Iowa. That's the kind of spirit that I have, too."

Thing is, the John Wayne who came from Waterloo is John Wayne Gacy.

I heard that one, but I'm not giving it near the weight other are. She or her team might've made a mistake looking something up, or she could've got it briefly confused in her head. She meant John Wayne the actor, and it's not Wayne's fault that Gacy was also from Iowa.

On the other hand, I'm interested if she takes to heart one of Wayne's most famous quotes (regarding John F. Kennedy): "I didn't vote for him, but he's my President, and I hope he does a good job."

Good gods... you mean they found someone even more divorced from reality than Palin?

I'm beginning to think that the billionaire bastards controlling the republican party have a bet among themselves as to who can field the most unlikely candidate...either that, or they know that the 2012 election is Obama's for sure and are just taking the piss. Which I suppose would mean that the real Republican hopeful s slated to appear for the 2016 election... bets anyone?

"they're ok with half the country just vanishing"

Somehow that made me think of the concept of "radioactive politics": it's not logic based on a static 'half' as much as on 'half-life' because, when the first half is gone, the Me Party (by whatever name, in whatever country) will be looking to take out half of the remainder. Repeat as necessary.

I listened to the GMA interview this morning. I'm almost hoping she is the nominee because she'll be driven into the ground by people like the teenager who challenged her to a debate on American history, or the people who would ask her about her lesbian step-sister and why she shouldn't be treated as an equal in this country.

alas, they don't seem to grasp the concept that they'll make *more* money if they make things better for the middle class.

After all, if you drive the middle class down to poverty, they can't buy that much.

I was more amused than anything. But here's her response to having the gaffe pointed out. It's classic Bachmann - throw out a whole lot of justification about what she really meant, and never once say "I was wrong". (And given her track record, I'll believe that Marion Morrison's parents once lived in Waterloo when I see it confirmed by a source I can trust.)

Her personal Big Lie is "I'm a substantive, serious person." She's not, and never will be, but by repeating that over and over, and throwing a fit when anyone questions it, as Chris Wallace did, she's trying to sell it to everyone else. My fear is that she may succeed. So I find gaffes like this useful, in that they make her look ridiculous.

And I think you know as well as I that she'll never, ever, ever be capable of referring to President Obama as "my President".

You assume that they want more money in dollars, but the really rabid horrors in politics don't care very much if they get more money, as long as they can push down the rest of us, because what matters is being relatively better off than the riff-raff. They don't want prosperous fellow citizens, they want cowed, compliant slaves.

Her comment about "taking back our country" from "the people all across the nation" may count as unintentionally telling the truth. After all, to the 'baggers, if you're not white, straight, conservative, and (their kind of) Christian, it's not your country.

A lot of people are saying "Please let Bachman win the nomination because Obama will wipe the floor with her in debates."

I say nay, nay.

If Bachmann wins the nomination, she's a shoe-in because when we said "George W. Bush is the dumbest Republican President there shall ever be", it's obvious the GOP took it as a dare!

My father, watching the debates, thought Bachmann was the most articulate and "on her feet thinker" of the Republicans involved.

They may not love her for being "the best," but they may love her for being able to make a sound byte sound better than the average aging Republican.

Palin is still popular and packs a punch, so let's not underestimate the impact a more articulate woman will have on the Right Wing.

I don't think it's accurate to say that the majority of people in this country watch Faux News. Those who do make up a vocal minority far out of proportion to their numbers, though, and they do tend to believe what they're told, no matter how far divorced from reality it might be.

Groucho though he was being funny when he said, "Who are you going to believe, me or your own two lying eyes?" That could be Fox's motto right there.

Yeah, I've heard that the serious contenders are looking toward 2016 and sitting this one out because they don't want to be known as the person who lost to Obama in 2012. I'm guessing whoever he beats, he'll beat by a huge margin.
