Sorry, but -- between family activities, extreme heat, general malaise, and frustration and depression about the news (the Norway attacks, the bullshit with the debt ceiling), I need to chill for a day or three. I'll check my e-mail now and then, but... I need a mental break. Hugs to all of you, and I hope you're having a good weekend.

Consider this an open thread, and if you talk about Captain America or Torchwood or anything like that, it's probably a good idea to put "Spoiler Alert" in the subject.

We've had power failures here almost daily. And on top of that my car needed the starter motor replaced. Well better now than Monday when I start the job. I'm going to see Cap America today; leaving in about 15 minutes. This should be a good test to see if the car is fixed or not. Let's hope we're done with the power failures for a while. Just in case, I may do some chores tonight (laundry).

Then I see what happened in Norway and realize my week wasn't all that bad.

You take a break, Tom. It's been a lousy week.

I decided to get out of the heat, and drove from Phoenix to L.A. yesterday to be an extra on Chris Colfer's movie. He's one of the sweetest young stars on the face of the earth, for the record. I won't give any spoilers for what we shot (not that they aren't readily available) but just want to say how nice he is.

I went canoeing this morning. I'm pretty sure I moved the seat in Constance to the right place.

I hope you have a good weekend.

Captain America Spoiler Alert

Not sure if this counts as a spoiler, but better safe than sorry.

Captain America is AWESOME! Go see it! Opening weekend if possible to buff up the numbers.

When the movie is over, go to the restroom (if necessary) during the credits, come back and watch the post-movie teaser. It's the best and longest so far.

Some Assembly Required

My daughter took me to the midnight show of Captain America at 12:01 on Friday. I enjoyed it, but to show you how little I know of current actors, I could have sworn the the guy who played Schmidt was Sam Neill, and his doctor henchman looked for all the world (to me anyway) like Gary Burghoff.

I don't think any of this counts as a spoiler.

Oh, and we are having a heat wave here in Seattle. It's gotten up to 72 today.

Our baseball team is sucking vacuum and we're due for a major earthquake so we have to have something to gloat about.

Yeah, Hugo Weaving DID look very much like Sam Neill with that particular haircut. He was utterly awesome, too.

Hugo Weaving was indeed amazing as Shmidt. Chris Evans put in a great performance as well. The best part, as Movie Bob put it, was that there's no irony in the movie. They play it straight and I really appreciated that.

I agree. I'd put it along side Iron Man in my list of favorites. Between this and Thor, Marvel seems to be about the only movie studio that's actually getting better. Let's hope this trend continues to Avengers.

This is late, but I had a terrible problem post movie of not catching everyone else up on the 1960s and 1970 sub plots...Remember it turned out that Peggy Carter had a younger sister Sharon Carter who had joined SHIELD? And then figuring out the new configuration of the "Howling Commandos"....I think they replaced Izzy with the Nisei from "Fresno". But the real spoiler was that it was just a set up for next year's Avengers movie...(rather like the middle of a trilogy...
