Holy crap. A few weeks of Not Much At All, and then today (among many other things, mostly TV season sets), we get:

• Fame: The Complete Seasons 1 & 2
• Doctor Who: The Next Doctor (2008 Christmas Special)
• X-Men Origins: Wolverine (Two-Disc Special Edition + Digital Copy)
• The Big Bang Theory: The Complete Second Season
• American Werewolf in London Special Edition
• X-Men, Volume Three and Four

Anything else just released we need to know about?

The Big Bang Theory looks like it might be funny, and I keep meaning to give it a chance. I've skipped it so far because everyone I know who raves about also seems to think Seinfeld and Two and a Half Men are/were funny.

I never watched Two And A Half Men, but I loathed Seinfeld. No, that's too strong. I was, and mostly still am, annoyed that Jerry Seinfeld has managed to make an extraordinarily lucrative career being a comedian, when I find him basically unfunny in every way.

I hated both Seinfeld and Two and a Half Men, and The Big Bang Theory has me laughing insanely almost every episode. It is based a lot in embarrassment humor (which I usually don't like), but the writer/director/etc get geek culture in a way most shows don't. In other words, it's pretty much amazing.

I don't mind that he made a living at it. Humor is just one of those things. Obviously a lot of people disagree with us. And even I have to admit that Two And A Half Men has it's moments.

And yeah, that's cute. I'll have to check it out eventually.

I watched the first season on DVD earlier this year when I discovered I'd be meeting the creator of the show (he also created Two and a Half Men and Cybil). I enjoyed Big Bang Theory, but it didn't make my must-watch list.

As for Seinfeld, I generally found myself bored after about eight minutes of any given episode.

Of those, Fame jumps to the top of my to-be-bought list.

I've found what I've seen of Big Bang Theory to be wildly variable. At its best, it's great. But the episodes I saw this past season spent way too much time on "see how crazy Sheldon can be", and humiliation humor.

A character like Sheldon is incredibly difficult to get right. The writer has to have some sympathy/empathy for the character, or you can drop into some pretty nasty caricature. I've seen the same problem in some episodes of Monk, though that seems to have gotten better again this year.

The IT Crowd: The Complete Third Season is on my list. I know some folks don't like it, but it has me rofling for 75% of each ep.

I don't think I have King Kong vs. Godzilla. I may not, immediately, but it's on the Someday list. Likewise The Wolfman, Special Edition.

I hear you, Tom. Seinfeld made me laugh once ... once. I just don't find him funny. He likes to ask these questions but never looks for the answers. One time he asked why the Chinese don't have a spoon, just chop sticks. Except they do have spoons. Anyone who's ever eaten egg drop soup knows that. I saw some thousand year old clay spoons at the Chicago Art Institute from China. So where does he get off saying they never had spoons?

I also hanker after Fame - but I already HAVE Season 1, the only one released before this, and the new package is Seasons 1 & 2 together! I've already paid for Season 1; I don't want to pay for it again so I can have Season 2...

My release list source, btw, is Largehearted Boy, a blog I heartily recommend for almost all the things on it (news roundups, DVD/CD release lists weekly, daily downloads of music, and a weekly list of Try It Before You Buy It options that labels and artists offer, often complete albums streamed online).

Here's the listing he provides. I can't tell if it's a reissue, but it certainly is being issued today.
