I certainly hope so ...

But I won't hold my breath. Yes, work on fusion. And in the meantime build solar arrays, wind farms, and spin up a metric buttload of modern, safe design fission reactors. I want us to the point that that the idea of burning petroleum seems quaint.

My friend [livejournal.com profile] chalcedony, the geo-chemist, explained to me once the difference bewteen fission and fusion, and ever since I've been waiting (mostly to the sound of crickets) for news of breakthroughs.

So, yeah, finally some movement in this area. \o/

Fusion energy has been supposed to be about 10 years away for at least the last 60 years. While I can hope, I won't hold my breath.

Unfortunately the magnetic deflector desired is one that repels the electron regardless of orientation. That's a Monopole -- a scientific impossibility. If they were able to create such a thing then workable fusion would be the least interesting result of the achievement.
