Big-ass storm just off Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas. If you're in the path of it, HUNKER DOWN or GET THE HELL OUT. If you're on the edges, stay alert, be careful, and watch for flooding. And comment here so we know you're all right.

Relax, it has not gotten near the mainland yet. That is a very alarming graphic, but the storm is now tracking to be 150 miles east of Florida. Maybe out to sea, maybe a visit to the middle states next weekend. Good surfing in Florida on Friday!

So far so good with me... but it's not due to hit here until this weekend anyway.

I was planning to drive up to Philly and visit Mom, but that might have to be delayed if the storm heads this way.

I'll be tracking it in any case. :-)

The fiance and I are just out of its path (he's in Boone, I'm in Asheville), so we should be fine. At most, we'll probably have to deal with some rain.

Not in the path (my brother and sister, on the Atlantic coast of Florida, will feel her soon, but not, they think, in a direct hit). However, radio meteorologists here seem to think we have something like a two-in-three chance of her running up the coast to the mid-Atlantic states and northward. Honestly, I sort of like the idea of a Cat 1 (by that time, I hope) hurricane hitting NYC as long as it's on a weekend when I can hunker down, not miss work, and be in a neighborhood that's not prone to flooding or ::crosses fingers:: the Powers That Be, willing, power outages. (ETA: Power outages would be Very Bad Indeed, considering that Saturday is the beginning of the second half of this series of Doctor Who.)

But I really should get the new living room A/C into the window before then. Open windows during a 'cane are not an optimal cooling strategy :-P

Welp, no hurricane yet, but DC just had an honest-to-Richter earthquake. TV is saying 6.0. Landline & cell phones are both out, otherwise all well here except the cats are thoroughly spooked.

Went out canoeing this morning. Weather absolutely *beautiful*; not too hot and the sky a deep, deep blue.

I will keep an eye on the weather forecast, though

Well, it isn't looking promising for my imminent trip to the outer banks this weekend.

*grumbles off stage left, trying to boost the gain on the weather nudging talent so Irene goes WAY out to sea & doesn't hurt ANYBODY*
