Wow. That's pretty much exactly how I feel these days. Political burn-out has well and truly struck.

I think that the real problem is that the President is reasonable so he thinks that everyone can be reasoned with. If he could explain things to the tea party crowd then they would sit and listen and realize that we're all in this together and that raising tax revenue is a small price to pay for getting our financial house in order.

In reality with the pundits on the right leading the republican party, and don't let them fool you they take their orders from Hannity, Limbaugh and all the other usual suspects, nothing can ever get done. They'll cry socialism and bemoan that the President is weak and in over his head, all the while trying to impose taxes on the poor in the form of a so called "fair tax" and giving every break possible to the rich.

You know I think that's why I'm so disappointed in President Obama. When he had both the House and the Senate he could have passed just about anything but he kept caving in to republican demands. So we get a health care reform that's just a give away to health insurance companies and the repubs STILL complain that it is unconstitutional. Not only that but we have the continued railing against helping the poor. I honestly hope that the President finds his spine and lets loose with both barrels. He'd get protrayed as the "angry black man" but at least then the racism on the right would be clear to all.

My fellow Communists and Socialists, members of the Red Brigade, and Congress:

Here is what we need to do to get this country back on track: (Insert the position of the tea party here.)

There are several things we must not even think of doing, and I know my friends in the tea party want to do all these things (insert reasonable moderate agenda here.)

There is no more room for compromise. Congress, get busy!

I'm afraid Obama doesn't get it that he is partly responsible for the extreme positions his opponents are talking. They seem to be willing to do or say anything to distance themselves from him. The further he moves past the center, the further they move to the extreme right. He keeps talking about compromise and working together. Can't he figure out they're just not interested? In my opinion, he suffers from the same symptoms that damaged the presidencies of Woodrow Wilson and Jimmy Carter. All 3 of them extremely bright, intelligent, well-read and well-educated, and all three out of touch with common people and lacking skills needed to negotiate with the opposition. There's such a thing as a president who's too flat-out dumb (GWB), and there's such a thing as one who's too smart. I think Obama is too smart to be effective in the presidency. The problem is, he views the other side as being on his level. For the most part, no, they're not.
