Sigh. Another wonderful OVFF in the books. Hugs, friends, music, just a grand ol' time. And now I sleep through tomorrow, and get back to stuff on Wednesday. :) There will be music finished and sent off, shopping for French onion soup makings, a thorough cleaning of the kitchen, and stuff attended to in anticipation of WindyCon and TomBoat II: This Time We'll Get It Recorded Properly Dang It.

What's your week looking like?

Tiring. Work likely has a challenge that came up during ovff.

It was nice to see you again. Also, the tomboat oneshot was great and I look forward to hearing the 2011 version.

Good news!

I got word from my vet today. Sarge does NOT have cancer. As I understood it, he has a large cyst of dead and dying cells that can be removed tomorrow. It's major surgery so there is risk, but he's in the best hands around. I'm so relieved. It could have been SO much worse. He comes home on Wednesday.

I've got a mix of happy/worried/guilty going on. See, my sweetie is moving from Florida to Pennsylvania (happy), but it's a really long drive and he's not used to long distance driving (worried - though he's stopping at a friend's in NC tonight). And I kinda feel like some weird version of the Chuck Wicks song "Stealing Cinderella" because of how hard his dad is taking it that he's moving away. ^^; It is, absolutely, a Good Thing to have him coming up to me, but it doesn't make the guilt evaporate.

On the plus side, this does mean I'll be able to bring him along to Windycon this year, so he'll get to see the awesome that is Tomboat. :D

Is my song one of the musics to be finished? (insert hopeful puppy eyes here)

Also, have you ever tried beer in your french onion soup? Tasteeeeeeeee.

Mine's looking hectic. I've got a medical appointment tomorrow morning (something to do with lipids), a dental cleaning appointment on Thursday morning, and a project deadline at the beginning of next week.

Looking at an effin' crazy work week. Have a business trip to get ready for, and a fire that we won't be able to put out but need to try and contain best we can.

Oh yes, my friend. At long last, oh yes.

I have not. I do have sherry for the recipe I'm using. America's Test Kitchen has two killer recipes. The one I'm going to try soon uses a slow cooker, and jumpstarts the caramelization of the onions with a little soy sauce and apple butter. The other sticks the onions in the oven for an hour and a half, followed by an hour on the stovetop. Deep, deep flavor in both cases, supposedly.

Tee hee. Yeah, we're gonna be great. Well, they'll be great, and I'll try not to screw it up.

Your sweetie could, seriously, do what I do -- visit Dad in Florida in February. Goodness knows Pennsylvania is not exactly the land of mild winter weather. And don't forget Skype with video -- it does help.

OVFF was terrific. I gotta say, the Saturday night vibe overall seemed better to me than it has since I started attending 6 years ago, and that was in no small part to the way you were running the big room (with Kathy and Rand helping out as well). People of all skill levels were doing some passing from room to room, playing in the halls -- I was just happy to feel so few barriers. Hopefully, everyone was as happy.

I've still never performed, but I felt like if the right leader had come in, and I felt ready, I could have. And that was awesome. So thanks for running a great room.

Did things feel any different to you this year?

I'd say it looks pretty calm (because it does) but if I actually say that something completely unexpected will come up...

Right now, I predict a lot of knitting, since I just came up with a new pattern for a thing people seem to like.

Link goes to the prototype. I've since obtained an absolutely perfect "slime green" to make more... (pics to follow once I get one done in that color)

Work daily, 6a-2p more or less, with 7 meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday and 2 simultaneous potluck lunches on different sides of campus on Friday. An optometrist today (first visit since June 2009, oops) and pick up altered tux and new shirt Thursday for my cousin's December wedding.

Not really, actually. For the last several years, there has been a distinct pattern: the Pegasus concert is fantastic, afterward there's not much music but a lot of hugging and community, the Saturday concerts kick the music back up, the Pegasus awards bring everyone together, and then we all break off into small groups on Saturday night.

It's a very nice family holiday gathering, with some great tunes.

Heh!! I like the title of that Tomboat II release :-)

Reorg at work last week, now comes the meetings to plan stuff with the modified group. Which is mostly the old group, but we have a new assignment now, so we need to plan our work for the rest of this quarter.

I, too, am getting ready for Windycon and Tomboat II. And yes, I will by Ghu get it recorded right this time, or die trying. Between me and Roper, we are going to have at least 2 recording rigs going, from different points on the board. (His from the stereo outs, recording the house mix, and mine doing a multi-track recording direct from the mic preamps. FSM willing, it *will* work this time.)

My dad's recuperating from his heart-valve replacement surgery - he's now part pig. A couple of my sisters are going psycho handling two stubborn old people, and taking it out on the rest of us. I am SO not looking forward to my shift down there, with the other sisters. (Must be nice to have a penis and be automatically off the hook for all the crap work...)

W00t! My friends were afraid I broke your muse with my odd song request.

Using a bit of beer in the oven technique gives you a different deep, deep flavor that's great for dipping sandwiches in.

And once again America's Test Kitchen has the best recipes for this kind of thing. I'm glad they're around. Used to cook up at _least_ two recipes from every issue when I was cooking and was only disappointed once.

I wasn't there, but I'll make the assumption you mean Smash the Frickin' Fairies - that's track #1 from iTom 4.0 (http://tomsmith.bandcamp.com/album/itom-40-smith-and-legend) and can be purchased from Tom's Bandcamp site. :)

Awright! Much appreciated, my friend. Gundo tells me you're planning sixteen tracks, which pleases me greatly. What I really want is for you to hang onto the originals, but give both me and him copies of the tracks before we leave on Sunday. And, please, please, either ride the fader on my vocal or just turn me down more at the outset. :D

It was a fantastic OVFF. We stayed over for Sunday night and caught the dead dog filk for the first time in years. WOW!!! What a fantastic time. This really made OVFF like a family reunion..plenty of time and room to visit and chat with people. And the music was great.
Now back to the world of "Crisis de jour". Making minestroni soup tonight.

Take care all

My week is looking interesting if nothing else. Tomorrow I have to go to the hospital to get my right knee x-rayed. It has been hurting for the past four weeks and I worry I might have banged it up when I passed out in the bathroom prior to my going to Garden City Hospital for the whole rectal bleeding that led to them removing a gastro intestinal stromal tumor.

Then I have to call the people in charge of Michigan's Adult Medical Program to see if there's an oncologist that takes the insurance that I have so I can get checked out and make sure the tumor doesn't come back.
