Awful news, and great sadness -- we have lost one of the family. [profile] keristor, British filker and 2007 Filk Hall Of Fame inductee Chris Croughton, has been killed in a traffic accident, apparently a head-on collision. If anyone has more info, please post it in comments.

Condolences, hugs, gentle songs, and much love to his family and friends.

I think this is the BBC report of the accident although there are no names mentioned so I could be wrong.

Still in denial here.

It looks very much like that could be it. Age is right, and Keris drove a Peugeot estate :/ I am with you on the denial. We are incredibly sad.

Pinning the location down a little: http://www.bucksherald.co.uk/news/local-news/man_55_killed_in_three_car_crash_1_3236348

looks like Keris was on the main road headed west, I suspect somebody either turned in to him or overtook a car waiting to turn.

If you got a call from someone in Utah that suddenly dropped... It was Howard Taylor of Schlock Mercenary (http://www.schlockmercenary.com) battling iOS 5.0.1 on his iPhone 3GS. He said "call home" into the voice recognition and it pulled up you.

Here's the reference on Google+ (https://plus.google.com/u/0/104870616867392622523/posts/fY5MJDzM2W8).

I met him in July this year at the Harry Potter conference, Diacon Alley. He was a lovely guy. We chatted a little and I remember him arranging to give someone a lift on the last day. My condolences to his family and friends too ♥

Somehow reading this I am sadder than I was. A newspaper report puts things in such blunt terms. Nothing of who Keris was. We put the face on the man, a real man who was loved and will be missed. Not a faceless 55 man, but Keris. I will miss him. I am tired of missing people. I guess it's part of being a part of the filk community, I know so many more reallt terrific people. That's the up side. The stab in my heart is the downside.

They gave more info about the cars than the people driving them like it was an episode of Top Gear. I know there are laws about revealing the names of the victims, but they don't have to make it seem like the real tragedy is that some nice cars got totaled.

I never had the chance to meet the man nor hear him perform. I'm sorry for this loss to the filk community. At Windy a memorial was given for someone else in fandom. I wish I could remember the name but the fact we lost another one of the extended family the same day made it worse.

Chris (Keris) befriended me back in 1986, when my fiance was shipped back the the U.S. by the U.S. Air Force and I was stuck in London with the U.S. Navy. He was not only a wonderful filker, but he was a wonderful supportive friend who never stepped over the line, but treated me as if I were a beloved younger sister.

His caring, his wit and his wisdom will be missed as much as his music, if not more. I last saw him face to face in 1994 or so when he took a long anticipated trip to the U.S. and visited with my family and me in our home in Pennsylvania. He's remained in my heart ever since.

Rest well, dear friend, and join your wonderful voice with the angels.

Would we, perchance, then know each other? I haven't figured out who you are from your LJ handle :D
