I am in tears over here. I don't know that I can wait a year... and yet I must.

As one commenter said on io9, "You have my sword."

I've seen this trailer posted no less than a dozen times already.

...and I have an idea for my birthday party next year... :-)

There will be some bitching from purists. Just in this trailer, the song they sing has been changed from what was written by Tolkien.

Perhaps so, but oh my Gods, the music! it's absolutely perfect, sending chills up and down my spine, enough to carry one away to the Lonely Mountain, just as Tolkien described. I'll give Jackson et al license to make changes, they have proven their love for Tolkien long before now.

Can we not simply contact the good Doctor, borrow his Tardis, and GO TO NEXT YEAR? Because I for one do not believe I can wait until December 2012. (Isn't the world supposed to end the same week this opens? Coincidence? I think not.)

I guess it's time to watch the LotR movies soon, or I could accidentally watch things in the right order!

As with "The Lord of the Rings", I regard the book as official history, and the film as, well, the Hollywood version.

Watching everything in the right order will require waiting two years, since the Hobbit has been split in to two movies. One releases next Dec, and the second releases the Dec after it.

I think my favorite comment that I saw last night was "A Peter Jackson movie is never late, nor is it early, it arrives precisely when he means it to."

Go for it now, Peter. It truly is worth it. Collectively, the three are my favorite film, bar nothing.
