Good Christ, the Bushies are getting more desperate and comical by the hour. By way of Hesiod's CounterSpin Central, check out this story about a John Kerry Speech:
Kerry never mentioned Bush by name during his speech at New North Side Baptist Church, but aimed his criticism at "our present national leadership." Kerry cited Scripture in his appeal for the worshippers, including James 2:14, "What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds?"

"The Scriptures say, what does it profit, my brother, if someone says he has faith but does not have works?" Kerry said. "When we look at what is happening in America today, where are the works of compassion?"

Bush campaign spokesman Steve Schmidt said Kerry's comment "was beyond the bounds of acceptable discourse and a sad exploitation of Scripture for a political attack."

Don't know if you saw this article when I linked in my journal a week or two ago, but you might enjoy reading it:

Oh, that's a good one. I too was raised with a religious tradition, and my family is still steeped in it; but, somehow, the fact that I have pretty much given it up doesn't seem to have suddenly made me a sociopath. Unfortunately, so many people think that if you don't kowtow to the Big Invisible Superhero In The Sky, there's something terribly wrong with you, no matter what good you do.

This is not unPresidented

Remember, only the Bush administration can refeernce the Bible, just the same way only they can bask in the reflected glory of the good works done by emergency crews on 9/11 and the US military. Everyone else is just a venal fiend.

I think the campaign strategy is to say such utterly outlandish things that the voting population with an IQ above room temperature is stunned like a gaffed fish ad unable to move themselves to get to the polls in Novenmber.

And it's perfectly all right to exploit 9/11 for ads?

Gee, we can see where this country's heading, can't we?

Nu, it's only fair for *Bush* to use the Bible to attack his opponent. That was in the memo he sent out last week. You mean you didn't get the memo??

Alas, poor Bush... he can't use the truth to defend himself and is starting to lose the sole ownership of religion. He's not a happy pResident at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

...it seems to me that Bush represents the kind of self-righteous, publicly pious, war-mongering rich men who Jesus warned us not to become.

OH, that's fabulous! Thank you!

I won't even start on my personal take on the way Christianity is presented by politicians these days...I'd go up in flames...it wouldn't be pretty. But that article expresses a lot of it. Please excuse me while I go link it to my site...

Be careful, Bush is hoping it'll bleed so much you won't have the heart to vote against him. ;-)

Q: How do you know when the Bible is taken out of context?

A: When it makes YOU look bad!
