How did the recording of Talk Like a Pirate Day come out?

Peachy dandy, although we've got to transfer the audio from Les's Sony Minidisc player -- which uses a copy-protection scheme, even for things you record yourself, so we can't directly transfer it to the hard disk, and we have to do it analog, which defeats the frickin' point of the Minidisc....

The live version we did is intended for talklikeapirate.com, and I'll do it again in the studio for And They Say I've Got Talent.

And Steve Jackson added a wonderful joke, just for the live version.

Not to sound too much like a slathering fanboy, but if the droolbib fits...

Are you planning on ever releasing MP3s of the other songs from Who Let Him In Here and Domino Death (the ones that didn't make it onto DAC)? I've been contemplating getting the necessary equipment to get the music from the tapes, but if you're already planning on doing this (or anyone else has already done it, hint hint), well, I'll wait for you.

If this isn't an idea that you've considered, please think about it? I'd be willing to shell out a few $$ for MP3s of the "leftovers" (most especially Ho! For the Death of Time), and I'm sure others would too.

Tom - With permission, I can do a quick conversion on the tapes. (within a few days.) They would have to donate to the virtual guitar, to get me to send the files (or make them available via ftp.) You would have to confirm the payment going thru 1st. It would be a record in, normalize and split to separate mp3 only.

First thing -- thanks, Harold, but no thanks. I am completely capable of MP3-ing those songs. Appreciate it, though.

However, while I certainly own those songs, I do not own those recordings. Dodeka owns 'em, and I haven't even bothered to ask whether it would be all right to do so, because (a) I suspect the answer would be no, (b) it would undercut Bill's sales unfairly, and (c) I intend to redo some of those songs in full way-cool studio mode for TSO (f'rinstance, I'm working on Fenton and Peter Lorre -- hope to have 'em real soon).

So, no, nothing from Who Let Him In Here? and Domino Death. At least, not those recordings. Sorry.

Now, if you want to do it yourself, for yourself, i.e., burning the audio onto a CD or MP3 for your own use, I have no problem with that, and as I recall Bill doesn't either. It's when you start passing 'em around that we get twitchy.

Last thing would be to get ahold of Bill -- roper@filker.com. If you want the rest of the stuff from the first two tapes on CD, bug him.

You're totally nuts. I mean, in some ways I suppose I'm glad you decided not to have a life for a few days, so we all can enjoy the—ahem—results, but you gotta check your mental O-ring seals after this type of effort to make sure you don't get any burn-through.

I'm back, and will be working on arrangements and recording for the rest of the evening. Actually, I'm having an excellent time. It's exhausting, but man this stuff is sounding good for effectively off-the-cuff. Once again SuperJAM sees me through, and for a project like this its shortcomings really don't matter.

No problem there, Tom. I fully understand. That is why I asked first and requested $$$ being tossed into the guitar case.

As for my collection... The tapes are planned for that eventually. I just have to finish the pile of tapes I keep adding to first... (I recently added another 4-6 OCP tapes and a bunch of other old tapes.)
