I had the great good fortune to see Ray Charles in concert in 1985; there aren't two like him, and that's a show I'll not forget (who'd'a thunk "Oh What A Beautiful Morning" from 'Oklahoma' could swing?).
His was a voice and a talent that will be sorely missed.
I was braced for it. He had been ill for some time. When his recording studio in Los Angeles was officially dubbed an Official City Landmark a few weeks ago, the publicity people would not commit to saying beforehand that he was actually going to be there in person, due to health reasons. He did manage to get up and get there, bless him.
