Hell of an Overnight....
Jun. 28th, 2004 07:31 amSo, it's been a busy night:
* In what looks like an attempt to avoid violence at the originally scheduled ceremony, Administrator L. Paul Bremer formally transferred Iraqi sovereignty to an interim government headed by Interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi. Then Bremer got the hell out of dodge. So, Iraq is now in charge of its own destiny. Except for, y'know, 138,000 U.S. soldiers, the 14 military bases we're building there, and the oil wells we still run. It's magical when they leave the nest.
* 40,000 people protested Dubya in Turkey. Their attitude was not improved by major traffic routes in Instanbul being effectively shut down for three days so that Fearless Leader could have a hassle-free drive through town.
* Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 911 is the number one box office hit in America this weekend, having beaten the heinous-looking White Chicks by a couple million dollars in one-third the number of theaters. In the name of freedom, right-wingers of all stripes spent a lot of last week trying to keep theaters from showing the film.
