Oh, this'll rock your socks off. Last night, Fox News featured John Edward (you know, the guy who talks to the dead) weighing in on the Schiavo circus. Fortunately, The Daily Show noticed this, and Crooks and Liars has the video.

OH DEAR GOD

You need to put a WARNING LABEL on that clip!

I mean, it'll take me a long time to clean the orange juice off my screen from the spit take!

God Bless Jon Stewart!

oh. my. gods.
*falls over laughing*
that is too hilarious, and really illustrates the absurdity of the entire circus going on around this case.
*snortgiggle* thanks for the link.

And yet again, another failing star appears on Fox. They should stick to reality shows, and get away from the news...

I'm curious as to whether he actually went and stood near her, or if he's good enough to do one of his 'readings' just by watching a ten second clip on the news...

Also, I'd like to know if Edwards there has anything to say about how embarrassed she is to be shown almost constantly on all those news stations looking the way she is, as she was VERY self-concious about her appearance, and even suffered from bulemia...

Well, they've run out of doctors who've never examined Terri but feel they can diagnose her using heavily edited video clips.

Did you hear about the guy who triued to steal a gun so he could "save Terri"? Read the story. (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2005/03/25/national/a035819S06.DTL)

I'm pretty sure he must've been thinking, "Hmmm. Y'know, I'd really like to get shot today. Eeyup, just fill my chest cavity with 30-ought. Thing is, I don't own a gun, and if I did I'm too chicken to do it myself. I know! I'll rob a gun store...."

Why don't they just go spreading a rumor that Terry had a lesbian affair?

Then the President, Congress and Religious Right will WANT her to die!

*sighs wistfully* The Daily Show is one of the things I miss most about Stateside TV. Well, pretty much the only thing, actually.

I begin to think Jon Stewart should take over as anchor of the CBS Evening News -- gods know he has more credibility than anybody else in network journalism right now.

As for John-Edward (whatever his name really is): I just know this; that man is so far from anything tentatively to be labeled a conscience that it'll take a million years for the light from that conscience to reach him. What a putz!

I understand the Schindler family's pain; truly I do. No one should ever have to lose a child. But they lost her 15 years ago. How often did they visit her before this became a legal issue? How often are they there providing whatever physical therapy might be useful? Not often, the way her arms are drawn up. If they'd been moving them daily that wouldn't have happened. If she's trapped inside that body, then let her go. Give her soul a chance to be free.

Bush brays about this case, while not commenting about the law he signed while Governor of Texas giving doctors the right to pull a patient's "plug" without the family's consent. What an effing hypocrite!

Oh yes, Jon Stewart is awesome and one of the things I miss about cable (the others being Iron Chef, Good Eats, and BBC America).

I nominate him for an Emmy for "Best literal example of '*facepalms*'".

To be Fair

To be fair to the parents, they haven't been allowed to treat her for years (since sometime after it became a legal fight) so the state of her arms currently is on the husband.

That being said, over 20 court cases (according to cnn) have sided with him that his wife's wishes were that she not be kept in this state. We have 'erred on the side of caution' far too hard in this case. Some of the court cases being refiled were decided less than a month ago. Neither the law nor the facts nor her state have changed in that time; Terri's parents are abusing our legal system.

I have to agree with you on that. They are doing this on pure emotion and not on legal issues. I know it's sad to let someone go (my mom and my grandmother had to pull the plug on my dad, much to his sister's dismay), but if she's been like this for the past fifteen years, then it's time to let her go and be at peace.

For the parents to keep hoping against hope that something miraculous will happen is showing they're in denial of her state. I have seen some of the videos of her supposed 'responding to outside stimulus,' and from what I saw, it's a lot of careful editing and people seeing what they want to.

Agreed. Absolutely.

Hmmm . . . then I do have some questions. What did he do in the beginning to see if she could be "revived"? Did he quietly accept the prognosis, or fight. I know he got $1 million in a malpractice suit, but what did he -do- for her? We don't know that, at least not any more.

Nae'theless, this whole situation has provided entirely too much fodder for the sensationalists.

. . . and I still believe she needs to be allowed to pass on.

"Careful editing" doesn't begin to cover it. They've got a four-and-a-half minute clip edited down from over six hours of video. Every court that's looked at all the footage has determined that her "reactions to stimuli" are occasional and random.
