Many, many people have speculated on whether or not Hogwarts Headmaster Albus Dumbledore buys it in HBP. Well, Guardian Unlimited has a contest -- descriptions of the old guy's presumed demise in various and sundry author and literary styles.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] nuveena for pointing this out.

From the reliable source I have, Dumbledore survives the book. I don't know who dies, but the book does tie up some loose ends. Its supposedly a good read.

For myself, I actually hope he does die in this book -- not out of any animosity, but because, dramatically, that works best... without him, everybody will be freaking until Book 7 comes out, wondering how Harry can win without him.

If Dumbledore doesn't die in book six, he has to die at the beginning of book 7. I consider this line a dead givaway (said at least twice in the series) -- "I will not worry about Harry as long as Dumbledore is here".

Personally, I think at the end of book 6, saving Harry, is the logical place for it.

"Dead? Could be anywhere then!"

I'm eagerly awaiting this book but KNOW as soon as I have devoured it, I will be left with many more questions than answers and a crushing desire to have the last book NOW NOW NOW DO YOU HEAR ME NOW!!!!! [Uh Oh, five exclamation points, a definite sign of a deranged mind.]

Even when/if Dumbledore buys the farm, his portrait will go up in the Headmaster's Office and certainly stay in the game, helping out whenever possible.

There is something siriously [sic] weird about that whole Veil thing. No corporeal remains are left, is the person truly "dead" or merely teleported somewhere out of physical and magical reach?

Maybe he knows Qui-Gonn Jinn's Jedi Mind Tricks? [grin]

Dumbledore is a crafty master manipulator and will make his death work toward his master plan, some way, some how.
