Everyone's been doing this new Politics Test... and complaining about it. I can see why. It's a sham. The wording of the questions is loaded, and it appeals to the uneducated. And, bluntly, parts of it looks as if they were nicked from the far superior Political Compass. (For comparison's sake, I'm about where you thought I was.)

Of course, if you haven't got time for all that, you could take The World's Shortest Political Quiz. (I got 90% Personal, 30% Economic, basically the same part of the grid.)

Complaining about the legitimacy of a political quiz hosted by OKCupid of all places seems a bit daft to me.

Thanks to your advice, I took the Political Compass test, and discovered that I am, in fact, the anti-Ann Coulter--so, in other words, nothing I didn't already know. :)

But thanks for posting the link to a good test. I didn't think I was the pinko liberal loonie the other test seems to think I am.

Tests.

As usual, I'm leftist and libertarian but not as leftist and libertarian as most of the people I hang out with. This is what happens when you get raised on a diet of Heinlein.

Tests

The biggest problem I have with these types of tests is that the questions tend to be to black and white. For example, the question about environmental regulations and people losing their jobs because of it, is not taking into account the real reason why it is happening. Anyone with any intelligence knows that if an environmental regulation is going to have some impact on their earnings, instead of the higher ups in the company taking a cut in salary to offset the drop in earnings they will instead layoff the lower workers. So, was it really the regulation or was it just plain greed on the part of the upper management?

The other problem is that anybody taking the test already has a very clear idea where their politic ideology lays in the spectrum. So, in the end the test isn't going to tell them what they already know. That is unless they are completely naive.
