Nipsey Russell Dies

Sad sad sad. The "poet laureate of television", comedian Nipsey Russell, has died at the age of 80. Russell was one of the first blacks to be seen regularly on TV. He also played the Tin Man in The Wiz. Quick-witted, warm-hearted, funny guy.

As everybody my age knows,
He made his mark on panel shows.
He always was a true A-list --
Farewell, dear Nipsey. You'll be missed.

I watched a lot of "Match Game" with my late great-grandmother, who was a huge influence on me. I'm gonna miss Nipsey.

He also did a heck of a job in the movie version of "The Wiz", which despite the presence of two people I normally dislike (Diana Ross and Michael Jackson) was a darn fine movie. Still is.

I don't remember seeing him on Match Game, I'm always too focused on Charles Nelson Reilley.
