Huh. I too was puzzled by your not wanting to see Destination Moon, especially since it won a Retrohugo.
I can understand being burned out on cheesy first-trip-to-the-Moon space opera, but in this case you may want to reconsider. As I recall, it was a lot better than I expected: the rocket wasn't built by some mad scientist in his garage, but took planning and organization; most of the trip was in free-fall, and weightless objects still had inertia; that sort of thing.
I'd say it's kind of like going to see a fifties aliens-and-robots-land-on-Earth movie, and getting The Day the Earth Stood Still.
