thanks for the post! What a great resource for a teacher! :-) (granted, it may be a little on the heavy side for the age I'll be working with K-3 but still, I'll pass it on)
Interesting. If I had a job I'd order it. Let us know what you think if you get it.
And as for non-violent gaming, I've played all the Civilization games and many other like it, and almost always win with little or no violence on my part (evidently I'm quite good at resource management). My cities get attacked every now and then, I send out troops to defend, but I never attack. I always win by having the happiest, most cultured, most techno advanced people on the planet and the other cities defect to my side. One game I played against another player at a LAN party, he focused on building up military, and at one point attacked and conquered half my cities. About ten turns later 3/4 of his cities and all of my old cities reverted to me because they were miserable under his rule. My civ morale was around 99% (they kept throwing "We Love The President Day" every turn, became annoying) while his was so low he was cranking out the troops just to quell constant revolts.
Then there was the play-by-email game where my opponent gave up when he sent in lots of his brand new chariots to attack, only to discover I had trains ;-)
I'm looking forward to Civ IV, can't wait to try religion and other new features.
This is very welcome, especially as I've rather overdosed recently on reviews of Serenity and people going ooh and aah and how wonderful over the fact that Malcolm Reynolds, who otherwise seems like a fairly decent chap, is prepared to kill another human being without thought, pause, question, explanation or warning. Apparently this is rilly kewl.
is rilly kewl about Mal Reynolds is not that he kills, rather that he takes immediate action and isn't afraid to get his hands dirty in whatever the job requires. He never has professed a love for killing, especially another human being, but sometimes you have to do what is Necessary. You may not agree, but that's cool.
