By way of Animated News, we learn from O-Meon that John Musker and Ron Clements are returning to Walt Disney Feature Animation. You know... The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, those guys.

We also learn from The Hollywood Reporter that composer Alan Menken has been lured back to WDFA, and his first project is with his ol' buddy Stephen Schwartz.

Anybody left who misses Michael Eisner?

I miss him. Need to recalibrate my catapult, and it should solve the problem...

Dang...ya beat me to that one!

Funny...wasn't it Eisner that brought these guys in to Disney in the first place? I seem to recall Mermaid was the first movie that was released under Eisner's helming of Mouseville.

I keep mentioning that, and nobody listens. When did Eisner start believing his own publicity flacks, and when did he "jump the shark"? Hard to say.

From what I've heard from people in the animation side of Disney was that Eisner believed the way to success was to hire talented, creative people, then crush their spirits to the point where they become zombie hacks. Thus they rounded up some great talent, and promptly lost it. A few good things popped up, but that was due to the upper management thinking such projects were doomed and thus ignored, and being free from executive micro-management a little creativity actually excaped. The phrase "I'll never return as long as Eisner is there" popped up quite a bit in discussions.

I don't know. Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, John Lasseter riding herd on WDFA and Imagineering, Musker and Clements and Menken returning...so far I'm loving Bob Iger's tenure, but I just can't shake the feeling that it's a trick and I should be getting an axe already.

You mean we might actually have a GOOD Disney animated movie in the near future?
