I'll go into much more detail after I've finished it, but...

I've finally, finally watched the first half of the new Battlestar Galactica miniseries.

Son of a bitch.

I'll be catching up on this as quickly as I did Firefly.

No spoilers, please. I've got a lot in front of me. :)

First half of the miniseries? That's it? Dude - catch up, already. If you think that's good, you haven't seen *anything* yet...

I'm in the midst of finishing up the first season myself. You're not alone in getting late to the game here. Just finished writing up thoughts on it and Veronica Mars over on my own journal, mostly spoiler free.

In short, while I like the show, and it is better than the original, it's still a little flawed in my opinion, and I don't quite love it as much as a lot of other shows. That said, it's still tons better than a lot of other shows out there, and definitely worth my time. Above average, but not holy crap! amazing. ;)

Man, if you think the mini-series is good... The series? It only gets better.

I've only just finished the first season, myself. And sweet jebus, does it get better. My own personal jury's still out as to whether it's better than Firefly, but it definitely is in the same echelon, and has "It still exists" as a strong vote in its favor.

Enjoy!

I saw the miniseries and most of the first season before I lost cable; and haven't been back to it.

But daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn, it's good.

(heh. Watch for Richard Hatch popping up in the first season in a TOTALLY appropriate role...)

Same thing happened to me. I heard about the new Battlestar Galactica, and said to myself "Oh, lord, this is going to be crap." Then I wound up sitting through the miniseries 'cause there was nothing else on, and said to myself: "Oh dear god, I've got to watch this!"

I think the second half of season two has had some real problems. And the first episode of the first season ("33") won (and richly deserved) a Dramatic Presentation Hugo, making the correct phrase "The Hugo Award Winning Battlestar Galactica," which I have to admit makes me giggle every time I hear it. Still, it does build through all of Season 1 and 2.1 and does not disappoint on any level. It's just the second half of Season Two which has not been so good for me.

What?

Hey. Some of us, by choice, don't have cable TV. And I've been too busy working on other stuff to start to catch up till now.

I've not yet seen more than fifteen minutes of FarScape.

Dunno about Tom.

Make sure you visit the SciFi.com site of the show- Ronald Moore's podcasts of the episodes are a 'don't miss' treat. So are the video blogs, although I think that they'd do better if they'd played them a little straighter.

Galactica rocks, and I hate that I have to wait until October to catch the new season. I just wonder when they're going to put the second half of season two out on DVD?

Boxey appears, but is written more like Wesley and he saves the Galactica single-handedly at least four times in the first season alone.

Isn't the new version just marvelous? I absolutely adore it to pieces. Almos is an AMAZING Adama.

And you're only in the mini-series! So much goodness still in store!

That's okay.

I'm with you -- no cable TV. My mom DVDs things on Tivo for me I might want to watch. :)

I've seen 1/2 hour of farscape. It was the last half-hour of the first hour of a two - part episode.

As madly in love as I am with the original, the new series is like the most fantistical thing on the planet. Well except for chocolate.

My favorite thing about it is how they keep making nods back to the original series. Moore freely admits he frakked up mixing the definitions of the games of Pyramid & Triad [so no guys in teeny suits playing ring-around-the-rosy with a little ball], and he [thankfully!] got rid of "felgercarb" and that obnoxious daggit. But the nods are there, both subtle and sledge-hammered.

I've probably mentioned this several times before, but... way back when, I worked at The Campus Theater, one of the last one-screen-only places in Ann Arbor. Two movies stuck in my brain: The Promise (worst theme song EVAH) and the theatrical remix of Galactica. Those blasts of Sensurround on my polyester-sheathed body made me a man that summer, which was good, because that godawful stinker of a show/film made me cry like a child. So the fact that this version is so very good surprises me, but I'll take it.

No, _this_ is a Grue
