Nice analysis of the dueling headlines today.

Tell me again why Iran is a bigger threat to freedom than our own government.

I won't argue. That particular devil has enough advocates.

Iran has sworn to destroy us and everything western. The Bush regime is merely stupid and petty.

So one has the intent to destroy us, the other has the means.

Iran has sworn to destroy us and everything western. The Bush regime is merely stupid and petty.

The Bush regime has sworn to creating a permanent Republican majority, strangling or marginalizing the Democrats. That is a threat to Democracy itself in America. The two party system has problems, but it beats the hell out of the one party system (just ask someone from the Communist USSR).

The Bush regime has worked to destroy the accountability of the president to the laws of Congress by asserting that he can add signing statements to laws like "Those torture provisions don't apply to me or GitMo".

The Bush regime has worked to destroy the accountability of the president to the courts by advancing that A: we are in a generational war, like the cold war, against Terrorism, and B: anything that the president does in a time of war is by definition legal since he is the Commander-in-Chief. (By that argument, everything every president has done since the 50's is honky-dorey. Even the couple of years before Terrorism replaced Communism as our War are covered since we have the on-going War on Drugs to bridge the gap)

That would leave us with a one-party government with one branch of government with all the power in the hands of one man. Isn't that what a dictatorship looks like?

No matter how you look at it, Iran's nuclear program - regardless of where it is heading in the future, is a direct result of US assistance in the first place. If the Shah had been around a few more years they would have been fully nuclear capable. I'm sure someone will try to use the excuse, not unlike Iraq now, that we made the mess and that it is our responsibility to clean it up now.

Still though, I can't see how it is a more pressing issue than what is happening right here at home. North Korea wasn't a concern for the administration when it was building up its arsenal (or maybe we just expected China to deal with them?).
