I discovered him when he worked on the Amethyst (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amethyst,_Princess_of_Gem_World) maxiseries. Remarkable stuff.

I will always have a warm spot in my heart for Ernie. Not only is he a wonderful artist, he was the editor at DC who bought the one and only comic script I ever sold, guiding me through a rewrite along the way. (It was a Green Lantern Corps backup story, and was never drawn, let alone published. Ernie was replaced as editor, and the book was revamped, before they got around to it.)
